BA gates

Post by Westaff »

Flew in from Prague tonight via heathrow . Noticed all BA flights on gates 24,25 and 26….what’s the reason the gates at the bottom of the domestic pier are closed

Ahhh. Back to the 1960’s and 70’s before the long walk to gates 18,19,20 & 21.

Looked like work being done inside the gate area, and all the snow clearing equipment parked up on Stand 21 when i flew out yesterday

Have seen the A380 getting pushed into Apron M the last week, could it be related to no aircraft parked at stand 21?

I would think so, but maybe also using the reduced number of flights between Christmas and New Year to test out pushing the A380 into the cul de sac rather than blocking the taxiway.

Nothing to do with the works on the gates at 21. The A380, particularly the Rolls Royce engined ones, cannot start if the tailwind is above a certain threshold. In that case the only option is to push into Mike. It takes every available ops personnel to close the road systems to allow that to happen and is only permitted under exceptional circumstances.

Thanks for the feedback, that clarifies it. Have been under the impression that the reason for the A380 pushing on to the main taxiway was the wing span.
