Seems an awful long way to come back surely an airport closer to the destination would not have visibility restrictions?

Maybe something to do with the proposed Boeing Research plant in Renfrew in conjunction with Strathclyde University.
I believe there is a joint statement next week.

Many years ago when BA stopped flying transatlantic from PIK, The BA engineering staff at PIK were offered relocation of jobs to other BA stations, the chief engineer (Station engineer) was transferred to become the Station engineer at EDI and he took a number of his staff at PIK with him to EDI. at...

Is the customs paperwork different for airfreight compared to truck and boat? Or is it that airfreight can get to destination without transiting through EU?
