Budapest with WizzAir

Post by Clive »

Quick report on my recent trip to Budapest. I was travelling with my daughter who is cabin crew with Jet2 so I left all the travel arrangements and most of the plans for our 2 day trip to her. She gets a free staff parking and she gets a discount for Priority Lane security and the lounge so we did that and settled in the Upper Deck. It was well worth the money but at 6am even I couldn’t manage all 4 of the included alcoholic drinks. She had more good ideas. We had booked the row in front of the over wing exits and knew those remained unbooked so upon boarding she gave bags of sweets to the crew (as is custom between cabin crew travellers) and asked if we could take those seats. Of course we could because they gave to get someone to sit there in case of evacuation. So we had 3 seats between the 2 of us and loads of leg room. The A320 was full except for 3 seats in row 1 and these exit seats and the pax were a multi cultural mix of what looked liked two way city break types, VRF types and people travelling for business reasons.

Our flight was operated by Avion Express and the crew were delightfully cheerful and friendly. They offered us free bottles of water after boarding and coffee during service. They asked us if we could change a tenner so they could give someone the right chance.

So that was all great and we landed early into a warm and sunny Budapest.

Our enthusiasts would like the look of an aviation museum which we could see from the road beside the airport which housed a load of Soviet-era Malev aircraft including ones I knew were TU-134, TU-154, IL-18, YAK-42 and many more. Maybe next time I’ll make time for that.

Our return flight was very early so we arranged an Uber from our hotel before 3am. Our GLA flight was only the second departure of the day but the airport was already very busy at that time.

It was a Wizz Air A321 Neo on the way back and it was literally 100% full so the route looks to be a good one for Wizz. Being so early I just slept from boarding until descent so never interacted with the crew at all. We landed early and hot footed it on the long stay bus to the staff car park and hit the road, being in the house just before 9am. In a way it’s quite good travelling during the night as I had plenty to do once I got home

Sounds like you had a great trip and I really loved seeing all the amazing pictures and videos!

It sounds like the Wizz flights to BUD are doing well, although they could do with improving some of the timings - and bringing OTP back too.

Nice TR mate and sounds like you both had a good time. Not on FB so getting a message to say I can't see the pics, sadly. :(

Sorry ‘bout that. Aye, I haven’t described our time in the city but suffice to say it was all good, and we were very lucky with the glorious weather. Definitely recommend Budapest for anyone seeking a city break from GLA.

OTP has been removed from the drop-down list of destinations from GLA on the wizzair website.

Here you go Bill. There should be a collection of my Budapest images and a video I made (I'm newly getting in to video production, mainly for bands/music so this was a familiarisation exercise).

For everyone, feel free to look through the rest of my stuff on my site as well. Those who don't know me will see what I'm all about.
