Golden Oldie Time again

Post by PiperOne »

Since all the previous postings have all disappeared it's time to post some nostalgia, while we're all grounded and kicking our heels. Going back to the early 80's for this selection, starting with a 1981 view of the terminal, taken from Cessna 172 G-ARWR, owned by the West of Scotland Flying Club.

Air Malta entered the 737 age in 1981 by leasing PH-TVP from Transavia, which duly appeared on regular Air Malta charters during the summer.

On 31st May Lear Jet 24 N101US stopped on stand 1 for a gas'n'go.

Interflug operated trawler crew change charters in support of operations off the West Coast, normally by IL-18, but Tu-134As put in appearances as well, such as DDR-SCS on 13th September.

Into November 81, and the 27th saw Eagle Air Iceland (Arnarflug) B720-047B TF-VLB parked on area 60 for a few days on a shopping charter from KEF.

In the spirit of nostalgia..........
IIRC in the mid 70's when Aviaco got their first batch of DC9s (EC-CGN,O,P,Q,R and S) all six would appear in GLA on a Saturday. This may only have been for one year as the DC8 took over some PMI flights mid to late 70s. My fading memory seems to remember that at least one of these DC9s did a W pattern as well.
Also - at least the first 2 were delivered in a sand colour scheme - anyone have any pics of those? All of mine are in the blue scheme.

Had a look back on SCAN for Aviaco. The first trio of DC-9s entered service in summer 74, N & O in sand/red colours, P introduced the new blue look. 1975 saw six flights on a Saturday, but from what I can see it was 3 x DC-9, 2 X DC-8, and 1 x Caravelle. 1976 saw a bit of a downturn, but did feature a Saturday w-pattern, to Alicante off a Gerona-based flight. There was also a Sunday w to Ibiza, off a Palma, these all on DC-9s. I have only one photo in sand/red, 'CGO on its first visit 3rd August 74.

Following on from the BAC 1-11 thread on the old forum, I found a couple of 1966 slides. The scanner did a good job of restoring the colour to the somewhat faded Gratispool (who remembers them!!!) slides. Links only as the "how to" for pics was on the old site.

Thanks for sharing, nice to see the old BUA black colours again, and British Eagle is still a very good looking colour scheme.
