PK to return to GLA?
Re: PK to return to GLA?
The decision to lift the ban on PIA and other Pakistani carriers operating in the UK has been delayed once again, this time without a set date.
The authority was expected to announce its verdict on March 20 following an audit but later rescheduled it to March 25. However, the decision has now been further delayed.
The government insiders added that the postponement was linked to an incident involving a PIA aircraft, where a tire detached mid-flight.
The World Air Safety authorities and Airbus were investigating the matter. The decision would remain on hold until the probe is completed, they added.

Re: PK to return to GLA?
I’d far rather see a second EK departure giving connections to LHE, ISB and Peshawar.

Plus the fastest way to get EK back up to 2x daily is probably to get QR to start DOH!
Re: PK to return to GLA?
I wonder if AGS are talking to SV (or talking to anyone tbh).
SV seem to have hoovered up all the traditional traffic that would be PK’s at MAN and BHX and IIRC I think I saw a post recently about LBA hoping to start an SV service.

Don't forget that Saudi Arabia are launching Riyadh Air shortly, this may be a better fit.

Re: PK to return to GLA?
On the topic of PK, whilst I'm usually very keen to see an old style carrier from an 'exotic' area start GLA, I'd rather swim with alligators than fly them. They're not at all safe and I'm not sure I'd be happy to see them fly over Glasgow. Hopefully some of the other options mentioned above will come to fruition.
Re: PK to return to GLA?
In addition to the wheel falling off iirc they also had an incident a couple of months ago with an aircraft landing on a taxiway or closed runway. In light of these continuing incidents I can certainly understand why the CAA don't want to lift the ban.
So more EK (or QR or TK) would be good, but I think there is a brand loyalty to PK and people from GLA used to drive south to MAN when they operated from there.
Interestingly census numbers would suggest that the Pakistani population of Glasgow may have increased by 50% in the last 10yrs, but the numbers for Glasgow are dwarfed by those for Lancs, W Yorkshire and the W Midlands.
Wrt to LBA, their CEO was recently making very confident statements about long haul to Asia and N America, inc NYC and ORD, within 3 years. It's certainly a contrast to GLA, especially when you consider that LBA has so little track record for such services compared to GLA.

Seems every airport is making confident statements these days bar us. I wish the new mob would get their collective thumbs out of their arses. BRS this, LBA that, NCL the other, and there's EDI.

Apologies for the serious thread drift.

GLA bosses also are. Let’s hope they meet with some success.bill wrote: ↑Wed Mar 26, 2025 7:13 pmSeems every airport is making confident statements these days bar us.
