Unfortunately what Stuart Patrick is asking for is for the government to favour one airport over another and skew competition. Give subsidies to airlines to influence their decisions re which Scottish airport to serve because GLA isn’t doing so well. That would be illegal.

Well, to be fair, that's exactly whats happening at PIK. Without Taxpayers money, it would be a Barratt Housing estate.

Interesting that AGS were in lobbying Jim Fairlie MSP, Minister for Agriculture and Connectivity a few weeks ago to "set out requests for a flexible and equitable approach from government and its agencies to route development support" which would imply that they think the current approach is neither flexible nor equitable.

They also spoke to the Deputy First Minister a few months earlier about, among other things, a "regional approach to route development support":

(Interesting also that EDI was in talking to the DFM about "connectivity between Scotland and China [and] the potential for new routes": https://www.lobbying.scot/SPS/Informati ... tail/54073)

It’s not “exactly” what’s happening, and it would be a real travesty if Scotland had lost aero ops at PIK which would then bypass Scotland and benefit another country. Loans were sent by the Scot Gov of the day to PIK management to keep the airfield open while it was turned around into a profitable business, thus maintaining the benefits the live runway brings to Scotland and the airfield’s future strategic roles when Scotland is independent. We couldn’t afford to lose that as a nation.
