GLA needs direct USA links - Glasgow Chamber of Commerce

I have cautious optimism for United re-introducing Newark, as they have resumed their Shannon service this summer, despite now having four services a day from Dublin. Scotland is also a popular destination for Americans, so there may just be scope for that to resume.

Set against that, however, is that only two cities in England have direct US schedules, London and Manchester, for a 50+ million population base.

AFAIK UA withdrew from MAN leaving EDI & LHR as their only UK destinations.

I came across a post on twitter saying they have signed to come back to MAN next summer with a daily 767-300 service. But that could just be based on speculation.

What if instead of comparing numbers with EDI we compared stats with pre-Covid numbers on each route?

Then we’d know to what extent GLA is managing to rebuild. ie if airlines have returned to the route and if pax have returned.

One could then do the same exercise for the 3 central belt airports and work out a comparison for each route and in total.

My calculator is not big enough to do this.

I have a spreadsheet for GLA and EDI. On it is each destination airport and the number of seats available for S22. Every month I add in the CAA airport statistics and it works out the % of seats sold.

Not sure the best way to share it though

Should point out that for the EDI document it might not reflect some schedule updates, but as I don't keep track of their routes I have not listed them. Source for seat information was ACL and the pax figures comes from CAA.

I have published a list on this page with each route and it's percentages. I would have updated the Excel sheets but my Excel is playing up. It's also worth taking a look at the notes included next to some routes (BOJ, DLM, BHD etc.)

Don’t care about Turnhoose but I fully expect JetBlue and United at GLA next year.

We’ll probably see WestJet consolidating Scottish ops at GLA too IMHO.

GLA didn't make the cut on this announcement from United (nor MAN too), though they're launching ORD-SNN.

Most stands are vacant from around 10am to 4pm mate. They can choose any one they like.
