New route - PLAY - Reykjavík to Glasgow
Re: New route - PLAY - Reykjavík to Glasgow
Great news... I think? Nice to see a new carrier at GLA but could it be at the expense of one of the longest serving airlines we have? FI have proved over the years that they can make the route work. Play can't and I don't think we have the capacity for two carriers on the route. I'd love to be proved wrong though. Gonna have to take a deep breath and say, "Well done GLA!"

Ones low cost, ones a mainline carrier.
Whilst its part of the conversation theres a bit more to this than margins being squeezed on Glasgow to Iceland. They both want onwards travellers to the States/Canada and those travellers who used the US carriers haven't just disappeared into thin air.
The increased parking fees paying off already eh.
My serious feeling is they'll cut each other's throats a bit but at least its some good news for a change.

My feeling is it will be similar to all the other routes that Icelandair and Play have in common, which is nearly all Play has. I bet all the other airports that gained Play didn’t assume it would see off Icelandair.rusty irish wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 7:48 pm Ones low cost, ones a mainline carrier.

Exactly! - Iirc WOW Air competed on quite a few routes with FI - and it was them that went out of business, not FI!

Good to see a new name coming to town, with another set of North American links

I wonder if FI will respond with a frequency increase.
