Changed Days

It doesn't seem like 50 years ago but for three summers I worked in the upstairs Highland Bar bar during my university holidays - the old licencing hours back then of 1100-1430 and 1700-2200 Mon-Sat with alcohol only available in the adjoining restaurant on a Sunday

I certainly remember it being busy over Fri, Sat & Sun as holiday flights were concentrated on a weekend (unlike today's all hours, seven days a week)

Roll forward to Saturday July 1st 2023 and Glasgow has only 7 departures after 1600 (1/3 of the day) and only 3 departures after 1800 (1/4 of the day) with 2 to Belfast and 1 to Dublin . . . not exactly private equity owners 'sweating their assets'

I know comparisons can draw ire but even Newcastle can muster 12 departures after 1600

Was commenting on this to my mate just the other week. Come dinner time at the weekend the airport is bereft of departures, it's crazy. This is where GLA could attract some really good lo-co business at good rates for the airlines.

Even if we didn’t have a Ryanair base, would be a good time to offer incentives to fill that gap

This morning EZY from LGW Cancelled, KLM from AMS Cancelled and nearly a 2 hour gap between the two RYR inbounds from Alicante and Wroclaw
