Passengers travelling from Glasgow Airport have been left waiting for hours in queues as they try to check-in for their summer holiday this morning, Friday July 5.

Excited holidaymakers claim they were queueing from the car park to the main terminal as hundreds tried to make their way through the airport.

Kevin, from Newton Mearns, was due to fly from the travel hub with British Airways to London at 6.30am. He claims the colossal waiting time almost caused him to miss his flight, reports the Record.

He said: "We arrived at 5.10am and as soon as we got to the terminal there was a queue of around 700 people which ended in the car park.

"One member of staff was standing at the top of the escalators directing everyone to the back of the line.

"We panicked but we were advised by a staff member to wait in the queue for 45 minutes and if more time surpassed we would be expedited to the front."

Kevin added: "Time went by and then we were told by a member of staff we should have been at the airport three hours before our flight and it was our fault if we missed it.

"I am a regular flyer, I've never seen the likes of these queues."

British Airways check-in counters for domestic flights are closed 45 minutes before departure. Check-in counters for international flights are closed 50 minutes before departure.

The disgruntled passenger said: "I would expect Glasgow Airport to warn passengers of unusually long waiting times.

"Half of the baggage scanners weren't active, which appeared to be causing the huge queues."

Holidaymakers caught up in the chaos described the situation as a "complete shambles".

One passenger took to X, writing: "What complete shambles at Glasgow airport it just gets worse every time visit. The bosses should be sacked running this" And another added: "Joining a mass exodus fae Glasgow... Never seen an airport so busy."

A spokesman for Glasgow Airport said: “As we enter the peak summer season queues can form at busier times and we would remind passengers to give themselves plenty of time when travelling.”

Sounds like the contract between GLA & ICTS is creaking at the seams if "Half of the baggage scanners weren't active" which would explain the issues between ICTS & Unite

When I went through on Monday morning just after 7am it was around 50% open, plus priority and staff search which is still upstairs in the main security hall.

"Airport in busy peak time holiday departure" drama. Ffs. Everything about that article is top level cringe. The way it's written, the content. Kevin,"the frequent flyer" being an arse arriving 80 minutes before the flight leaves and thinking it's the airlines fault for not telling him he's a tit. I could go on but I wont as it's Friday night and I'm staying happy. But, get this shoite gone. :D

Their journalism degree should be returned, if they have one, and kevin hasn't heard of online check-in, like you I tore the article apart

Online check-in doesn't change the security wait unless you pay the extra for priority

The key issue is the lack of a steady flow through GLA with peaks when the based aircraft leave at 0600-0800 then again at 1400-1600 when they return (then add Emirates as well) - so the staffing levels required will need to be pro-rata per passenger higher (and therefore more expensive) than airports with a steady flow created by securing inbound flights to fill the gaps on the basis that good customer service throughout the day is a management KPI . . . hence my post earlier re the contract between GLA & ICTS (you will recall the union complaint about no breaks during shifts, ie under-resourced)

Tonight is a good example - 1800-1900 5 flights, then 1940 2 flights then 2105 then 2325

That’s a shocking amount of departures you’ve illustrated. In years gone by I remember all the charter flights that used to leave on Friday nights.

Most regular BA flyers would have enough status to be able
to use the biz class bag drop and priority security.
