Vueling

Some good news, Vueling are apparently cutting EDI from their network as of the end of October.

But are they announcing GLA instead? That would be better news.

Maybe they’ll do a WizzAir and move to the more efficient local airport given that it’s all the one market….

Yes, it's hardly good news when it doesn't impact GLA. I doubt it would even make any significant impact on GLA-BCN figures as I'm sure the majority of easyJet pax are outbound travelling either for a city break or a cruise.

It would be nice to see Vueling BCN-GLA but I think it would rely largely on inbound pax, I doubt many people in Scotland have even heard of them.
I’m confused. So is it not all the one market now in central Scotland or is it? We can’t have people insisting one thing or another and changing with the wind. If it’s all the one market then surely Vueling’s pax, whoever they are, could use either airport? If not then it’s clearly not all the one market.

Barcelona is one of those rare routes that is flown from all 3 Central Belt airports, and was also in 2019, to compare pre- and post-pandemic. Ryanair serve from both EDI & PIK, Vueling from EDI, and from GLA it was Jet2 in 2019 but Easyjet this year. Vueling operated EDI 4pw in 2019, but this year is only 2pw, however the total has grown overall.

EDI 2019 - 17229, 2024 - 20431
GLA 2019 - 3713, 2024 - 5580
PIK 2019 - 9309, 2024 - 6455.
total 2019 - 30251, 2024 - 32466.

So, a bit of growth at EDI and a bit of switching between GLA and PIK, but it would appear that VY have been the losers, so have decided to exit the market.

Absolute embarrassment that GLA-BCN has fewer pax than PIK-BCN.

Maybe because Jet2 were on the route in 2019 then as well, now its only EasyJet, but let's constantly berate AGS because "its the only thing I come on here to do" Yes AGS could do better, but its getting a bit tiring now

Bear in mind, Vueling did exactly the same last year. Stopped flights then returned the following summer. I suspect they will do the same again.

It’s the fact that PIK has a Ryanair base and we don’t. That has to change or. GLA is never going to take a realistic market share. And still no transport to Edinburgh. That can’t be right.

Presumably this is in relation to the AA discussion? It absolutely can be one market or separate markets, depending on the route. I don't know why that is so hard to grasp. Vueling pax could use either airport, hence why I said it would be nice to see BCN-GLA but my point was that up against easyJet - a locally well-known carrier - I doubt Vueling would generate the same amount of traffic. I could be wrong but I suspect the same thing that happened at EDI would happen at GLA and they would be forced out. GLA doesn't exactly have a great track record of keeping low-cost airlines happy either.

 what else do you want people to talk about? The plethora of new routes?
I’m sure GLA and PIK are all the one market but if an airline doesn’t see GLA (or PIK) as a substitute for EDI then it can’t be all the one central belt market. Truth is it’s not really, as inbound tourists will naturally look for EDI flights when they are thinking about visiting Edinburgh and many more will arrive by train or plane from London as part of a multi centre trip to the UK.
