Wizz Air's parent company, Indigo Partners, have signed an order at the Dubai Airshow for 255 Airbus A320 & A321 Neos and XLRs. Wizz Air are to receive 102 of the allocation, all of which will be A321Neos, including 27 of the XLR variant. These are on top of the 2017 for 140 units, which are currently in the course of delivery, with the objective of reaching 500-aircraft fleet by the end of the decade. No indication yet as to how these aircraft will be distributed around their 3 brands, although the XLRs are speculated as going to Wizz Abu Dhabi.

Does Indigo own Frontier as well as a Central American carrier?
This Wizz expansion mirrors Norwegian. I wonder exactly how many markets they will try to dominate and reduce depress revenue. When Norwegian tried to be everything to everyone from everywhere all it produced was lakes of red ink. Scandinavia to Europe, intra European services from Spain and her Islands to other EU countries ( mainly Germany and U.K. in congested highly competitive markets ), long haul to the Far East and USA and South America; bases in France, Spain, UK , Ireland, USA...... and so it goes on.
It’s not that I wish I’ll on Wizz but endless expansion, multiple bases, cheap fares, finding routes to deploy aircraft all smacks of a haphazard approach to planning. There is a market out there which is already depressed, fighting for survival, debt laden with all the ongoing issues that brings, the very last thing required is yet another dog in the manger. It’s noticable that their CFO resigned recently. Just exactly how much more shall come out in the wash.

The rest of the order is split between Frontier, Volaris, and Jetsmart, with 92 A321Neos earmarked for Frontier. Very much a suggestion that the Wizz XLRs will go mainly to the Abu Dhabi operation, as that will give the range to reach Hong Kong or Singapore.
