Sad news regards 310 job losses: 160 at Glasgow, 150 at Edinburgh. So sorry for friends and colleagues who will be affected by this and it’s only a matter of time before other companies are similarly impacted.

Aviation is not in a good place right now; here is hoping politicians of all parties recognise this vital industry and take appropriate action to help companies, operators and their workforce.

I don’t think it will be a fire and rehire. All indications are that those lost jobs will not be required again in the short to medium term. Unless, of course, there is a huge bounce back. It’s more than likely any short term increase will be covered by a core staff and overtime working keeping headcount down.

Horrible times for our industry; across the board from manufacturing, operating, logistics, catering, ATC, spilling out into oil, retail, ancilliary transport and hotels, hospitality.

Yes fully understand what you say Clive but my post related to the aviation industry. The big issue here is that we could well face a depression, not a recession.

For those made redundant there is no place to go; no alternative airline, handling agent etc. No company will be rehiring in the near future; skill sets will be lost. Yesterday an article indicated that both Edinburgh and Glasgow airports are on a knife edge - when did you ever hear that before?

I know and I agree. But the pandemic is a bu88er which we all have to live with. It’s a sad fact of life.

But I personally think that travel will return to full operation in the fullness of time. Might take 5 years to get to 2019 levels or it might take 18 months. The virus will be gone eventually and when it is it won’t take long for punters to forget about it. (Those not dead or grieving, of course).
