Indeed. I always had a sneaking admiration for W6 after they migrated up the road from PIK to GLA and EDI never figured in their plans...for a couple of years anyway. Now,like all things it's all gone/going east,You have to ask yourself why that is? If it's all to do with EDI being an easier inbound destination to get bums on seats than GLA then that don't leave us with much, does it?
Bye, bye Wizz

Yes I would....competition is a wonderful thing. A monopoly is not.atuk wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 4:34 pmYes and now you have Cardiff, Doncaster, Gatwick, Liverpool, Edinburgh ( which I don’t see being a success given Ryanair are already in situ). Mind you there is always Abu Dhabi, Debrican, Turgu Mueres, Cluj, Sofia.......
Would you honestly want them at Glasgow trying to destroy Jet2’s citadel?
Another example of GLA failing to keep what it had.
Re: Bye, bye Wizz
Indeed. Never be scared of competition. If you are then you're not operating properly. It keeps everyone on their toes. Airports are no different.
Re: Bye, bye Wizz
Folks I fully understand what you say regards competition however is it okay to enter a market, trashing, destroy profitability then withdraw because your company has lost shedloads of cash during the process.
Wizz entered the Norwegian domestic market to see off Norwegian on their home patch.
They didn’t succeed and have withdrawn after barely four months! What does this say about their commitment? Just look at all the other bases - two aircraft here, three there, all disjointed and no tour operator back up.
Personally I don’t mind them operating out of GLA bit not on the sunshine routes. They may be okay regards cabin services bit t and c leave lots to be desired. After all you only get what you pay for.

It's all becoming much simpler for me now. I'd rather have anyone flying from GLA to anywhere than nothing. The Covid-19 pandemic has been a bit of a leveller across the board, we'll all agree on that. I think the days of who impinges on whom are in the past for the foreseeable future. Ultimately, the dog fight in the east will resume and I just hope GLA is in a strong position to capitalise. They have got to be if they want to survive as a serious contender in the central Scotland aviation scene.

I am sure there will be some consolidation as things slowly return. My main worry is that EDI will be seen as the go to route if an airline needs to make a choice but GLA has to fight it's corner or else. I can see the likes of UA to EWR only operating from EDI to start with and thereafter? Hope I'm proved wrong of course.

Yet another new base announced. This time it’s Naples - lookout Alitalia! “mirror mirror on the wall who shall make the biggest loss of all?”
