Birmingham - Girona
6 Sept 1974.
Britannia Airways B732 G-AVRN from memory. G-BAZH on return flight.
With the new Mrs S on our honeymoon holiday to Costa Brava.
Would have flown from Glasgow but no flight that day.

Got married previous day in the Rockfield Hotel, Renfrew Rd, Paisley. Long since demolished...marriage has survived though.

Taxi to Central Station Glasgow and overnight sleeper to Birmingham then flight to Girona. Romantic or what.

Nearly a perfect match,Al. G-AVRN Captain James Cook outbound to PMI and G-BAZI Sir Walter Raleigh on return flight. The Rockfield was a lovely hotel, Mum and Dad had their Silver Wedding reception there.

First charter was British Caledonian BAC1-11 G-AXJK from Gatwick to Malta on 03/07/73 for ATC Summer Camp at RAF Hal Far, returning a week later on G-AWWZ. Most of the daytimes were spent on the RAF station at Luqa, which was opposite the terminal, and was home to the Canberra fleet of 13 & 39 squadrons, and Nimrod detachment from St. Mawgan.

I remember the Sobelair DC6B OO-CTL was a regular Saturday night visitor in the mid/late 60s , on occasion a Sabena a/c was subbed in.

I did the same flights Gatwick to Malta 14/07/75 and 22/07/75 in BCAL 1-11s G-AWYV and G-AWYS, for ATC Camp at RAF HalFar... I was promised a flight in a Nimrod but it never happened.

Yep, Malta was a non-flying camp, but still a great week. Managed a Nimrod flight a couple of years later up at Kinloss, and a couple of VC10 trips :D :D :D :D at Brize Norton. Magnificent machines.
