easyJet potential base closures
easyJet potential base closures
E-Mail sent out this morning that EZY are looking into the closure of the NCL, SEN and STN bases. Other bases being reviewed. Looking to cut down on UK crews.
Sounds like most bases will see cuts.

Re: easyJet potential base closures
727 UK pilot jobs going, which is almost the equivalent of 60 a/c in the UK.
Re: easyJet potential base closures
14 aircraft: 7*STN, 4*SEN, 3*NCL.
Although the bases will going they will retain non based flying. This will be followed by a review if aircraft stationed at remaining bases. Sad times indeed.

As much as I’m saddened to hear this I’m happy to see GLA isn’t up for closure. I don’t doubt the base could have cuts ahead we can only hope it’s strong position as a domestic airport aswell as the opportunities Flybe has opened up in terms of BFS and BHX will shield the airport from the worst
Sad time all round for the industry!

From what I gather, all bases will be affected, though obviously some less than othersGla1 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 5:56 pm As much as I’m saddened to hear this I’m happy to see GLA isn’t up for closure. Re: easyJet potential base closures
Ever the optimist I’m starting to think about the growth opportunities between 2021 and 2023 when they expect to reach the 2019 level. Perhaps by 2023 GLA can have a far better easyJet operation than it did in 2019. A sort or rejig and rebalance could be the result of all this in the fullness of time.Gla1 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 5:56 pm As much as I’m saddened to hear this I’m happy to see GLA isn’t up for closure. Note, if we are to keep our STN service it will involve a GLA based aircraft. When both easyjet and Ryanair were on this route the numbers were phenomenal.

Re: easyJet potential base closures
This is quite an interesting analysis and also highlights that Glasgow in terms of a base is certainly one of the smallest in the U.K. and will continue for the moment to be one of the smaller bases.
I think going forward however the future really is something to be optimistic about for EasyJet at GLA, along with what Clive said. The domestic services will become more reliant on the GLA abased a/c and hopefully as consumer confidence returns for foreign holidays easyJet holidays could do well at GLA.
I also note that 16 a/c are to be pulled out of Berlin... hefty amount there. The German market really does seem to be a hard one to crack for any airline including the LCC’s.

Re: easyJet potential base closures
The schedules posted elsewhere here show all STN rotations done by a GLA-based aircraft in S20 and in W20 only one of the three weekday and Sunday services were to be done by an STN-based aircraft (one of two on Saturdays). So closing the STN base wouldn't make much difference to the GLA-STN route.
That said closing it might, however, mean fewer EZY seats from GLA/EDI if a GLA/EDI-based aircraft ends up doing a W-pattern from STN (e.g. GLA/EDI-STN-AMS-STN-GLA/EDI.
Re: easyJet potential base closures
Yes,they always seemed way above decent.Any sign of slack on the GLA-STN route then I'm sure MOL will be severely tempted again. It is a cash cow of a route.Clive wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 6:10 pmEver the optimist I’m starting to think about the growth opportunities between 2021 and 2023 when they expect to reach the 2019 level. Seen a post on pprune that Liverpool are to loose 70 staff which equates to 3 aircraft
