Laudamotion

Post by atuk »

Ryanair are closing this company and VIE base shifting it to a new company Lauda Europe based in Malta.

The thirty Airbus 320 aircraft will be transferred to the Maltese register saving tax costs and all employees currently subject to Austrian tax laws will be under new flexible working agreements!

Bases at DUS, PMI and VIE will be maintained, however STR will close as German staff have refused to accept new terms and conditions. Ryanair bases at NRN and SXF remain under review.

The Ryanair Group will now have around 150 aircraft placed on the Maltese register. Lauda Europe will be subject to Maltese terms and conditions whist Malta Air is looking to work with and be partially funded by the Maltese Government.

Lauda Europe will operate from bases where their customer demand exists. It looks like a major cost cutting exercise all round although withdrawal from some German bases may help reduce the massive overcapacity which has existed since the Air Berlin collapse.

How does that work with European competition rules?

Sounds like the massive overcapacity in Vienna will be replaced with a massive overcapacity in Malta instead ? It looks like Air Malta are toast, already trying to transform themselves in a loco, rebranding as Malta Air-Med. Popcorn time again...
