Reports say they have filed for Chapter 11 in the US.
A company which was once an award winning icon under the leadership of Jan Carlson’s 1980s CEO who introduced Business Class to the European skies. Together with tour operators Vingresor and Wing he founded Spanair with Spanish partners before the tour operations and Scanair were sold to Airtours plc.
Once nicknamed Sweet and Sexy the trials and tribulations and slashed costs took their toll on onboard service as well as headcount reduction. My own experiences in J and Y class were nothing to write home about: at best mediocre at worst downright rude! Sour and Surly was more appropriate and when Austrian Airlines performed Jerusalama SAS did I’m still standing with the **removed** appearing from behind a check in desk!
So no tears over SAS from me. I just wonder how this leaves operations at ABZ andEDI.
Scandinavian Airlines
Re: Scandinavian Airlines
They will do what Swiss, Sabena, British European and countless others did. Buy the image rights. Go tits up on a Friday. Start back on a Monday.
Re: Scandinavian Airlines
Probably but this time they have a reinvigorated Norwegian eating away successfully on intra Scandinavian routes, Finnair adding long haul from Stockholm and Eurowings adding a base in Stockholm too.

Re: Scandinavian Airlines
...and a suggestion they'll switch from Star to Skyteam eventually.
Re: Scandinavian Airlines
Maybe more than a suggestion. KLM Cityhopper are already strong in secondary cities in Scandinavia so maybe AFKL hope to bolt on more connectivity.
I can see that boarding call change from “Scandinavian Airlines Star Alliance departure to Scandinavian Airlines and their Skyteam partners…..”.
