TUI Third party flying

Post by atuk »

Usually there are Sunwing aircraft stationed in the UK and Dublin for the summer season. Given the recent purchase by Westjet it looks like that won’t be happening going forward.

Consequently TUI have lots of seats on EZY sunshine routes as well as Corendon and Sun Express - a pity that XQ aren’t flying from GLA as EDI-AYT has been ramped up and boosted by TUI taking seat allocations. As well as these seats there are also lots out of LGW on BA Euroflyer.

Could it be because GLA has a TUI base?

LGW and MAN are much larger bases with even more third party flying on EZY for MAN and BAEuroflyer at LGW. They use CAI and XQ from both too.

We know, but I don’t know why you’re making out third party flying, like the TUI Holidays ones from EDI are somehow better than in house flying.

Clive I’m not trying to make out that third party flying from EDI is better than based flying from GLA but simply highlighting the missed opportunities.

Here are some examples: EDI-FUE on EZY; no TUI GLA departure. They used to share a TCX aircraft; BJV on EZY no GLA departure; CTA from EDI on EZY not even on the radar for GLA: this would have reintroduced Sicily from GLA - the first time since Dan Air Comets!

So many missed opportunities - don’t even start me on Lakes and Mountains and ski flights!
It seems that TUI are moving much closer to the German model of less in house flying with a smaller fleet and much more use of Eurowings (ughh) plus Condor, Sundair, Sun Express and Corendon. All this bodes ill for TUI Airways UK down the line.

Very slightly off topic, but Tui Airways have applied to the CAA to wet-lease 5 B738s from Sunwing again this summer, despite the Westjet take-over. Base split not yet known

Interesting….I wonder if these will negate the use of smartlynx and Avion Express. I used to see their flying programmes, how I’d love to see one now.
