Secure a Ryanair base and we can have another extra million at the stroke of a pen. And in conjunction with the above set up coach links to the cities of Edinburgh, Perth, Dundee, Stirling and Carlisle and from towns up the Ayrshire coast. Otherwise growth will be piecemeal rather than dramatic.

Interesting to read some of the comments added since the article was extracted

Better get the disputes with taxi drivers at ABZ and security staff at ABZ & GLA sorted out otherwise 0% growth

Again, Andy Cliffe seems to talk a good game, but will we actually see the developments and results he's claiming? They're currently conspicuous by their absence.

This is the third interview in 18 months where he's said getting direct scheduled US services back is a priority, but where are they? Instead of any advances, in reality they failed to get JetBlue in the door and lost them down the M8. If we don't have direct US flights back for S25, then that strongly suggests he's full of hot air.

It's also disappointing that he is still talking about a "Team Scotland" approach, whilst his rival at EDI is openly briefing the press that he tells airlines not to fly to GLA.🙄

What airline is going to offer direct US services from GLA while its main rival is actively promoting its intention to go for pre clearance aka Dublin & Shannon

I know the two subjects can be intrinsically linked at times.

American Airlines maybe. And United are planning a big European expansion with their new Airbuses. We could also hope for Aer Lingus or Norse. Whichever of the 4 see a business case for GLA-NYC, which should be a no brainer.

The claim of adding 1m passengers in 2023 is a bit spurious. CAA figures show 2022 at 6516k and 2023 at 7356k, so actual extra is 840k.Taking it for March 2024 vs 2023 we have 7502k against 6900k, so the 12 months has shrunk to 602k. So, I can't see where we are going to add an extra million this year, which would imply a Dec24 figure of at least 8.35m. Unless, of course, he is talking 1m over AGS in total, which is a bit nearer the mark.

Can't help thinking that there is a bit of misplaced optimism at AGS, although it would be nice to be proved wrong. Aberdeen growth for Mar24 vs 23 is only 143k, so not a lot of contribution there.

I remember not long ago, the chap made a fantastically optimistic claim that Glasgow would be gangbusters.
Cant remember what the figure was, but as all Sales Management devotees will confirm, making growth budgets is a piece of cake. The hard bit is achieving it.
And he aint gonna touch the sides of the pan on his predictions.
