Edinburgh airport to introduce non-refundable luggage trolley charge
Holidaymakers at Scotland’s busiest airport will be charged a non-refundable fee to use luggage trolleys from next month, in time for the busy summer season.
From Monday July 1, passengers travelling through Edinburgh airport will have to pay £1 to use a luggage trolley, which will be payable at contactless kiosks.
However, they won’t get their money back when the trolley is returned.
The new fleet of trolleys, supplied by Wanzl, will remain free to passengers with reduced mobility who have booked special assistance.
Bays for the new trolleys will be positioned in prominent areas including car parks, pick-up and drop-off areas, near tram and bus stops, and in the arrivals halls.
Edinburgh Airport says that the charge will “ensure the airport is able to provide the best service to those who use them, while also investing in future improvements across the terminal”.
It added that a dedicated team has been created to manage the fleet and “deliver an improved service for passengers, ensuring trolleys are available where needed”.
Adam Wilson, chief operating officer at Edinburgh Airport said: “Bringing in this fleet of newer, better trolleys – and creating a team to manage their availability – will provide a far better experience for those passengers who need to use them.
To deliver the new fleet, and ensure the trolleys are available to those who really need them, we have introduced a small charge similar to those you see at many other UK airports. This will help us deliver the best service to passengers who use them and invest in future improvements across the airport.”

Re: Why Edinburgh becoming 'Scotland's Airport' isn't wise
Edinburgh already abusing it's self-proclaimed position as Scotland's Airport.
It hasn't take them long to abuse their monopoly position. Imagine my surprise!

It seems as if a non-refundable charge is quite common at other UK airports if this is accurate: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.aph.co ... ealed/amp/FlyGLA wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 9:14 am Edinburgh already abusing it's self-proclaimed position as Scotland's Airport.

Another way of looking at this issue would be that AGS are foregoing an additional source of revenue, revenue which they could no doubt use in part to offer lower fees to prospective airlines.

Brilliant bit of business though, you've got to admit? Probably north of £10m per annum for nothing really and monies that could be used to subsidise current airlines to expand or to attract new carriers for example. Now, if only we had such 'out the box' style thinking owners.FlyGLA wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 9:14 am Edinburgh already abusing it's self-proclaimed position as Scotland's Airport.

People moan about a lot of things, but EDI shows its clear that as long as there is a good supply of frequent, cheap, direct flights then they'll overlook pretty much overlook any other negative and still flood through your airport.Clive wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 2:40 pmFolks already moan about drop off charges. Indeed sir. If the flights are plentyful and cheap enough then what's a quid to push your luggage through the airport? Especially if you knew that the money would be used to develop more routes and/or more airlines.Iain wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 2:54 pmPeople moan about a lot of things, but EDI shows its clear that as long as there is a good supply of frequent, cheap, direct flights then they'll overlook pretty much overlook any other negative and still flood through your airport.Clive wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 2:40 pmFolks already moan about drop off charges. Re: Why Edinburgh becoming 'Scotland's Airport' isn't wise
As EGPH already makes a grotesque profit it would seem a bit of a rip off of a captive audience and to say the revenue would go into route development is not right. It goes into shareholder’s pockets. It would be good if their customers revolted and came to GLA instead but as you say, they won’t, and GLA will follow suit on the chargeable luggage trollies.bill wrote: ↑Fri Jun 21, 2024 4:26 pmIndeed sir. What next, 50p to use a urinal and £1 per dump? Actually don’t temp them because one does have to pay to use the t facilities at Buchanan Bus Station.
