easyJet
Re: easyJet
EZY adding BHX-HRG and a 5th aircraft to Birmingham. It's taken BHX about a year to achieve a 5 aircraft EZY base, something it has taken AGS at GLA 20 years.
Re: easyJet
AGS have only been in existence for a few years.

Re: easyJet
BAA was formed in 1987. AGS is BAA with a new name. The AGS brand came into effect in 2014, 10 years ago.
For comparison, easyJet started operating from Glasgow in 1995. BAA was the owner and operator at this time. BAA is now AGS. It has taken 29 years for us to reach a base of 6 aircraft.
easyJet started operating from Birmingham in 2024 with three aircraft based. Within a year this will have risen to 5 based aircraft. Give it another year and the BHX base will be bigger than GLA.

Re: easyJet
Give it another year and BFS or NCL will likely overtake GLA in terms of annual numbers.FlyGLA wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 12:49 pm BAA was formed in 1987. AGS is BAA with a new name. The AGS brand came into effect in 2014, 10 years ago.

Re: easyJet
Ermm, yes it is.
BAA plc was bought in 2006 by a consortium led by Ferrovial, a Spanish firm. To this date, AGS Airports Limited is jointly held by Ferrovial (via Faero UK Limited) and AGS Ventures Airports Limited, an entity controlled by Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund 4 LP.
Much of the senior management team has been in place throughout. For example; Ronald Leitch, Chief Operating Officer, AGS Airports joined the business in 2000 when they were operating as BAA. He has not left the business since joining. Ronald has worked his way up within the business. He was employed by BAA in 2000. Today, he is employed by AGS. Same business, different name.
Re: easyJet
So because Ronald has worked at GLA from boy to man, it’s the same company?FlyGLA wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 3:08 pmErmm, yes it is.

I’m well aware of the history of ownership of GLA and indeed the erstwhile BAA empire and every fact states that AGS is not the same company.
This seems quite a ridiculous leap to be taken from the news that easyJet are expanding their new-ish BHX base, especially if your one of the ‘Scotland’s aw wan market’ brigade. If you are you’d need to consider their combined central Scotland capacity which is split across two bases.

We'll agree to disagree that AGS is indeed BAA under a new brand.Clive wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 3:53 pmSo because Ronald has worked at GLA from boy to man, it’s the same company?

It's a fair comparison, considering the rapid growth at one UK airport versus the continued stagnation of another. I'm not sure how you fail to see that.
As for the "all one market" comment, I've never made such a comment nor indicated that I agree with this approach. Regardless, even if you subscribe to this notion, you must also consider that BHX has competition as well. I've said it before and I will say it again: GLA is not the only airport in the world that has to compete with neighbouring airports.
Arguably BHX faces far tougher competition than GLA does, with EMA, MAN, LHR, LTN and BRS within a relative short driving distance. GLA is failing to compete with two neighbours, one on life support, never mind 5 thriving airports.
Ps, if we can drop the Glasgow Ned patter ‘Scotland’s aw wan market’ that would be great. Such use of the English language is offensive to my ears and eyes.
