Airport gets £206m to boost passenger numbers
Cardiff Airport will receive more than £206 million to boost passenger numbers and improve facilities, the economy minister has announced.
Ken Skates said the airport would target two million passengers a year and develop its maintenance, cargo and sustainable aviation facilities as part of the ten-year funding deal.
Puts the sums PIK has received in perspective!

Yes, and reading the article, the Tories there think it’s a colossal waste of tax payers money despite near 1000% annual ROI the airport and related business cluster brings to the economy. Shades of PIK right enough. And then there’s a headline on the same page about how the Tories wasted £700m on their facsist-flirting Rwanda scheme. Thank goodness they have been removed from power.

I wonder if this funding will hamstrung BRS and we'll start to see airlines moving to the secondary airport in this market. Somehow I doubt it.
There goes another excuse for BAA/AGS. More excuses than routes.

Serious questions have been asked about the Welsh Government's plan to give Cardiff Airport a further £205m. The Welsh Government has already invested £179.6m in the airport since buying it in 2013.

It is "vitally important" Cardiff Airport makes money from new sources, not just passenger flights, its chief executive has said.
The airport has launched its first cargo service since 2010, carrying freight between south Wales and China.
Spencer Birns said he was focused on growing passenger numbers, which are about half of what they were before the Covid-19 pandemic.
He also said he was "anticipating" Qatar Airways services to Doha would restart.
