BA to increase LHR and LCY?

Post by southflyer »

The ACL reports for LCY and LHR indicate BA could increase GLA in W23:

- LHR increase by 167,222 seats (approximately 24 per week)
- LCY increase by 19,306 seats (approximately 5 per week)

In total, it would mean an additional 186,528 seats for winter.

While international expansion is preferred this is not to be sniffed at. Combined BA and easyJet are offering 328,369 additional seats this winter.

If this increase continues into the summer and combined with the Jet2 and TUI increases, could we reach 1,000,000 additional seats for 2024?

New Saturday service, possibly first time this has ever been offered.

Thanks for sharing southflyer.

This is great news as it's a significant increase flights and overall passenger capacity. Passenger growth this coming winter has the potential to be very impressive.

Give or take the odd cancellation, the summer service has typically been 55 flights per week. I would think the extra comes from using slots which are summer only routes to Europe and turning them into additional winter domestics. Interestingly, BA are also taking back slots at Gatwick, which are currently leased to Easyjet, so may have some scope to increase there as well.

The 55x weekly came from the network-wide reductions ahead of S23, the original frequency was higher.
