CAA July 23 stats

Post by PiperOne »

That time of the month again. July has always been GLA's busiest month of the year, having reached 1.0m on occasion.

Total Pax - 769095 (+3% on 2022), 12mth 7.133m.
International - 473173 (+2% for EU, +3% for non-EU)
Domestic - 290921 (+3%)

Some people won't like this, but 3% growth on July last year is pretty poor imho

That’s what you’ll get without a Ryanair base.

100% agree with this and Clive’s comment above. I think easyJet in particular have become complacent at GLA

I wouldn't say complacent - easyJet know the market (they have enough passenger statistics), know the competition on every route, and can play off two airports commercial deals . . . . so the ball is firmly in GLA management's court to change the airline's approach to Central Scotland (the same applies to Ryanair and I can see Jet2 drifting as well)

I fear that the horse has bolted in the cases of easyJet & Ryanair

Indeed. EZY have needed a boot for years now. I know they are the biggest carrier of bums on seats at GLA but they don't half bugger about when they announce two new routes and drop two at the same time for instance. As others have said and have been saying for years, no FR, no meaningful growth year on year I'm afraid. Simple as that.

EZY I'd agree with but with FR, nothing stays the same for long. There's always hope. :D

Yes, -21% on July 2019

Interestingly PIK -20% on July 2019

GLA levelling off at around 7.25m terminal passengers annually

At the end of the day growth is growth, would be better if it was a higher percentage but like others have said some of our resident airlines could be doing a lot more and even some away based flying from Ryanair adding a couple more routes would be a boost if they won't commit to a base or GLA won't deal them in to have a base here.
