I think this has already been reported or at least speculated on here ? But it now appears to be confirmed, the AC Rouge 767 will not be retired and will continue to various international destinations, including GLA next year. But what's more recent is the decision to switch EDI to mainline service by 737-8Max. They obviously feel sure it'll be cleared for flying again soon ? I wonder if that might be enough to "scare" up some EDI travellers to fly via GLA, avoiding the Max experience, once people get to know it's what they'll be flying on ?

There is 2 big points to factor in I think:
1- The Air Canada/Air Transat (if it's still on the table, not sure if it is or not), TS are currently scheduled for S21 with A330 service.
2- Westjet there currently planned for the Max

If the AC/TS merge is off (do both operate on one of the days?) what do AC send to compete?
A lot of passengers might not know westjet are using the max but those who will know will they be put off and use AC/TS?

So presumably if the Max returns for next year, we will also see them at GLA, in the form of Icelandair, Tui, possibly Ryanair as well as the WestJet service ? That's a lot of nervous passengers, potentially...

Does it incorporate Rouge services though or is that separate ?

I would anticipate the GLA schedule being updated once a few things are known:

Is the TS merger going ahead?

What are forward bookings like? Do they justify sticking with a widebody or a reduction to a MAX.

We always got to find a way to make out GLA is possibly losing a service and find a negative spin on non starter clues .. Its to difficult for anybody just to be positive and not look for things that isn't the case .

Yes but they've hinted before that some 767's might be stored to see what happens regarding the TS merger. Anything I've read in that regard since Covid-19 arrived, suggests the merger is dead in the water. This announcment regarding the 767 to GLA and other places, may as you suggest just be the status quo or it is in fact reflective of them anticpating no Transat merger. The knock-on effect could also of course see TS go purely A321Neo on YYZ-GLA, something else that's been hinted at in recent months. We'll just need to wait and see I suppose.
