No doubt that is because our market is shared with EGPH which does have those services.Iain wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 11:29 am Undoubtedly we're looking at it with the benefit of hindsight, the decision to build those facilities a number of years ago was quite possibly the correct one at the time. However, looking back now it appears more debateable.
What I think was always questionable is the failure to get in any other middle eastern airlines to compete, as there was surely always a risk of EK not paying back any loyalty.
Of the top of my head, I can only think of GLA, NCL, BLQ and MLA as airports in Europe that have EK, but no other ME3 service - and only GLA and NCL have EK, but no other ME3 or TK.

NCL and GLA have both been touted for future TK services though
Re: Could United be returning??
Some good debating on here, well done chaps. Should I change the thread title to Could EK be leaving? Seriously, just asking.
If anyone wants me to start a United thread and merge these posts, let me know. Happy to do so.

Yes, certain to happen. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

At this rate the only way Glasgow is going to get a NY route is if someone here starts an airline and does it themselves. Anyone want to chip in for a lightly used A330 or similar?
Re: Could United be returning??
It’s not all rosy down the other side of the motorway though. JetBlue loads sub 30% since launching, according to our own GeorgeNTravels over on X.

In fairness I checked 1 day, and only decided to look after seeing a discussion on https://www.airliners.net/forum/viewtop ... h&start=50 specifically post 91.
Tonight's seat map taken from JetBlue's website is below (it may not be completely accurate, but gives a good indication of loads on a specific flight)

Oh, and before somebody runs over to PpRuNe and tries to take what I said completely out of context the tweet originally referred too had every TATL load factor on it, even those that said 100%GeorgeNTravels wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 11:55 pmIn fairness I checked 1 day, and only decided to look after seeing a discussion on https://www.airliners.net/forum/viewtop ... h&start=50 specifically post 91.

"Bumper summer season ahead despite the almost hysterical and paranoid anti EDI contributions you can read on another forum. Some very questionable stats being spewed out and how dare EDI have all the long haul routes."
Guess giving a source, saying it might not be 100% accurate and also praising some routes for being sold out is somehow "anti EDI"
Re: Could United be returning??
In the interests of balance, it's worth noting that JFK>EDI seat maps look pretty full for the latter half of next week (and looks to be sold out completely next Friday). However that said, no objective observer would be so rash as to draw a conclusion from one or two days' seat maps (or even attempt to make an argument based on them). Full data will be in the public domain in due course and will allow actual load factors to be calculated, although even that wouldn't tell us how profitable those flights were.
