Re: CAA May 24 stats
So maybe 7.85m by the year end
Interesting to note that the total growth for the three AGS airports in May was less than Bristol on its own . . . AGS x 3 beating Bristol by only 31,500 terminal passengers in the month

Interesting is one word for it Bearsden. I'd choose another word (or two) but I'd have to ban myself if I posted it on here. Awful performance is all I'll say but we all know that anyway.
Re: CAA May 24 stats
As Bill says, despite the growth, these are really poor figures. We're still a million miles away from previous peaks. GLA should be handling over a million passengers per month during the summer.
The comparison to Bristol doesn't surprise me. It's now the airport I use more than any other (still not my closest airport, though), and the choice of destinations and frequency of flights is staggering. No matter what time I pass through BRS, it is always buzzing. By comparison, GLA is a ghost town outside the main Jet2 and TUI departure banks of 0600 to 0730 and mid-afternoon.
We went to the Algarve in April this year, flying BRS-FAO-BRS. EasyJet alone has 3x daily flights on BRS-FAO. On top of that, there is Ryanair and Jet2 also on the route. By comparison, easyJet had 3 flights that week on GLA-FAO. That's right, easyJet has as many flights from BRS in a day as they do from GLA in a week!
Oh and before anyone mentions it, BRS has neighbouring competing airports too.

Yeah and it’s the dominant one in the region. I wonder if in Exeter they’re all jumping up and down chanting “it’s aw the wan market BTW but our airport bosses are loser and somehow related to the old British Airports Authority…”?FlyGLA wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 9:22 am As Bill says, despite the growth, these are really poor figures. Re: CAA May 24 stats
I doubt it. Exeter has never been the dominant airport in the south west. GLA was always the dominant airport in Scotland. Exeter is not the dominant city or population centre in its region. Glasgow is. EXT was never owned by BAA. GLA was and is still owned by the same organisation. This really is one of the silliest posts I've ever read on this forum.
Ps, the Scotch patter of "aw wan btw" really does make my skin crawl.
Re: CAA May 24 stats
It also competes with an publicly owned airport about an hour away, which serves a national capital city with a Parliament and a castle. But that doesn't seem to have held BRS back whatsoever - whilst similar circumstances are apparently terminal to GLA's chances. Funny that.

The spotters at BRS probably think it should be doing a lot better for all the riches and catchment area is serves. In fact I guarantee they do. Nothing is ever enough at any airport.Iain wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 2:30 pmIt also competes with an publicly owned airport about an hour away, which serves a national capital city with a Parliament and a castle. Although we can be terminally negative we need to guard against being insular IMO. GLA doesn’t operate in a bubble and has to operate with an array of real world competitive and economic realities like all airports do. We lost our USP when someone claimed it was all one market. If it is then of course EGPH is going to mop it up.

Re: CAA May 24 stats
Glasgow operates in a Red Ocean Strategy, a market with many competitors, so in order to stay afloat in the market, Glasgow needs to take a Blue Ocean Strategy, which in the aviation industry is quite niche, as it is yet to be discovered.
So can we put all the name calling to bed, yes management could do better, but sitting behind a keyboard throwing insults isn't going to do any favours, so can we close this matter.
