To me, this is it folks until Prestwick closes its terminal and Ryanair bring a base over. Going to be at least another 5 years of this I feel, and even at that I suspect EDI will keep trying to pick off what they still want from GLA. You'll have bits and bobs of growth from TUI and Jet2, Easyjet reshuffling the deck a bit, but thats it really.

Indeed. AGS must secure a Ryanair base or nothing much will change. New owners will certainly do that whether it’s before or after PIK is sold or if pax ops there continue or not. And don’t forget - GLA is up for sale.

The only thing I would caveat that with on behalf of GLA bosses is we have no idea what is stopping this from happening. I know for certain that this is on the top priority list.

So can we put all the name calling to bed, yes management could do better, but sitting behind a keyboard throwing insults isn't going to do any favours, so can we close this matter.
AGS needs an Atlantic Ocean strategy. Pronto.

Indeed. AGS must secure a Ryanair base or nothing much will change. New owners will certainly do that whether it’s before or after PIK is sold or if pax ops there continue or not. And don’t forget - GLA is up for sale.

Beggars can't be choosers and any new pax are a positive - but at the same time FR's base at PIK is pretty limited and only carries about 550k pax per year, to destinations that are mostly already well served from GLA. As such, it wouldn't be transformational for PIK to close and the traffic to move to GLA.

They could of course open a bunch of new destinations that aren't served from PIK, but in many cases they could do that without even opening a base.

There was a lot of speculation FR were going to open a base this summer, but that didn't happen. At the time we were assured it wasn't just idle speculation and there were other "signs" it was coming, but we're now 3 months from the winter timetable and no sign of anything for W24 either. Not only no base, but iirc no new FR routes from GLA since about 2017 or 2018.

Leaving that aside, even if FR announced a base tomorrow, it would do absolutely nothing to redress the shocking failure and loss of long-haul - particularly transatlantic - traffic.

Similarly no sign of the much vaunted TK service, when will that happen?

Overall, I keep coming back to the impression that those in charge currently at GLA are talking a good game, but actual results are conspicuous by their absence. You could say at least talking positively is an advance on their constantly excuse making predecessors, but that's a pretty low bar!

It shouldn't and wouldn't just be a like for like shift with what is served by PIK going to GLA given its much more centrally located, a bigger market, better positioned for inbound traffic etc. I'd like to think it would be a base comparable to the likes of NCL, LBA or EMA. You're not going to have the depth of niche destinations that EDI or MAN have but a GLA FR op is more than capable of having a decent depth of Med routes and service to secondary parts of Ireland, some unserved big Euro destinations like Milan or other parts of Eastern Europe. That base should be the number 1 target above all beyond individual flights to say Turkey or the US.

However it all boils down to the relationships PIK has with FR and the direction of that airport, which we know very little about. We know about this "five year deal" and its also been suggested if the airport is sold, it might carry passengers another five years. Its very speculative and limited, but I feel until then, GLA is not going to be in a great negotiating position. Theres no way though that anyone can tell me without PIK that FR wouldn't have a base here. They would have one to use as a negotiating chip against EDI if for nothing else, especially whilst the attention there has moved from low cost to long haul, and all the whilst the infrastructure at EDI is choked with the huge surge in traffic its not built to cope with.

Investing advance re BRS/CWL discussion:

https://www-bbc-co-uk.cdn.ampproject.or ... google.com

£206m in public funds for CWL, on top of £200m already put in - and BRS are still wiping the floor with them and will likely continue to do so.

Meanwhile about £40m into PIK and GLA can't compete and they can't get FR up the road. I think this illustrates where the problem lies, and it's not PIK's ownership.

Anyone who has an IQ on or above the level of a fridge magnet can see that PIK is a Blocker to Glasgow.
Ridiculous situation.

So you just ignore the above point and resort to name calling?

Iain has made a very valid point. I suspect you understand this, but for one reason or another, it doesn't align with your narrative. Rather than name calling do you want to come back with an adult-like response?
