Yes, and on top of NCL announcing a bunch of other new routes, including other routes/airlines GLA doesn't have.
What's more Newcastle isn't a national capital, it doesn't have a parliament, castle or medieval old town and the tourism stats show it has LESS THAN HALF the foreign visitors of Glasgow.
What are GLA saying in their pitches that GLA is so unattractive? Their failure to deliver on virtually everything their CEO has repeatedly claimed is in play is stark.
I wonder if they've given up. Maybe the management have been told they're all for the chop when the new owners take over.
The takeover can't come soon enough imo, unfortunately it'll surely be S26 at the earliest before they can have a major impact.

My concern with the takeover is that GLA is being bundled with ABZ and SOU. I worry this means the same old AGS/BAA mismanagement will persist, just under new ownership. I would have much preferred if GLA had been sold as an individual entity, fully severing ties with the current group.

The absence of a direct bus link between GLA and central Edinburgh is a significant failing by the airport’s management. This should have been addressed more than two decades ago.
That said, GLA management should still be capable of presenting a stronger business case than NCL. Bus link or not, on its own, Glasgow remains a significantly larger and more robust market than Newcastle.

The sticking point is the airlines use EDI to serve the Glasgow area. Like I have mentioned in other posts, hopefully the new German owners will invest & apply the same kind of infrastructure & surface/public transportation connectivity that we see at most major German airports.
We can only live in hope.
Also maybe AviAlliance will divest themselves of ABZ/SOU once they've bought the whole group.
Who knows - tomorrow is never certain.

Exactly. No offence to Newcastle, but it has none of the assets Edinburgh has, and it has vastly less foreign visitors than Glasgow, yet GLA is still losing out to it.
The thing is that DY and EW both have large ops at EDI and MAN, so going by that argument surely NCL is served by those and they don't need to open NCL flights. We might also ask why LH started GLA-FRA if Glasgow can be served through EDI? That shows it's not insurmountable (at least for LH group airlines).Clive wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 1:53 pm

The lack of any Scandinavian service at GLA is yet another huge failure imo, particularly CPH as it attracts over 30k pax per month in peak season. I think CPH will have 5 flights per day from EDI on some days in peak summer. And before anyone starts about high yields, DY were offering £68 returns in Jul when I looked the other day.
Market research I read a few years ago showed Scandinavian visitors were more interested in shopping, eating, drinking and football than castles, history and scenery, so GLA should have a reasonable draw even against Edinburgh.

The other airports in AviAlliance's portfolio seem to be medium/large, so ABZ and SOU don't really seem to fit. I wonder if those two might be sold off quite quickly.
