Which airlines do you think have such exclusivity deals?
NCL
Re: NCL
This comment is completely off-topic and seems more like an attempt to disparage Glasgow than contribute meaningfully to the discussion. Something you're well rehearsed in. Just a few weeks ago you gleed that Glasgow was a "shit hole". Your words. You just can't help show your true colours can you?
When has anyone ever decided whether or not to visit a destination based on local issues like drug statistics? Do tourists research drug death rates in places like Benidorm, Barcelona, New York or Prague before booking their trips? Of course not. People visit cities for their culture, attractions, and experiences, not for unrelated socioeconomic challenges.
The suggestion that drug-related issues are holding Glasgow back as a destination is not only unfounded but also one of the most ridiculous takes I've seen here. It has absolutely nothing to do with the conversation at hand.

Yes indeed, on all points.GKirk wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 11:46 am Agreed that the deaths are measured differently, but visitors reading the press will sadly see that.
I think we all want GLA to be doing a lot better, it is why we are here after all. Hopefully 2025 will see some good news. If Emirates aren't bringing in the 2nd daily again, then getting Turkish in has to be a priority

Re: NCL
If you look up the per capita drug deaths for many major American (and indeed some canadian) cities like San Francisco, Chicago and Vancouver you'll likely find they're higher than Glasgow - or do a Google image search of "Vancouver east Hastings". But funnily enough I've never heard any airline say they're not going to fly to YVR cause of BC's drug stats.
Similarly, Marseille seems to be pretty popular with airlines and tourists, despite suffering an orgy of drug related gangland shootings and violence in recent years:

And even if we accept these arguments, the tourism stats tell us that Glasgow is consistently in the top 5 or 6 destinations in the UK for foreign visitors (and top 3 for Americans). Interestingly Glasgow - drugs and all - got 618k foreign visitors in 2022, whilst Newcastle got 248k:

Personal attacks again, maybe you would be better off elsewhere? Regarding the drugs deaths, read the media.FlyGLA wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 7:02 pmThis comment is completely off-topic and seems more like an attempt to disparage Glasgow than contribute meaningfully to the discussion. Re: NCL
Look, you need to stop crying personal attack every time someone holds you accountable or points out when you're wrong. It's downright embarrassing. It's not an attack, it's a response to your post, unlike your counter response which hasn't addressed a single point that was made. I stand by what I said as the only reason you mentioned drugs was your burning desire to talk down Glasgow, as you frequently do on this forum.
You post it. You take responsibility. Playing the victim doesn’t help anyone, least of all you, and frankly it's embarrassing.

Re: NCL
Instead of playing the victim - again, why not address Ian or myself directly? We’ve made valid points against your post that deserve a response. Perhaps start by explaining when you began factoring drug-related deaths and other socio-economic issues into your holiday destination choices and where you chose to go on the back of such research.
Re: NCL
The fact that Newcastle has destinations unserved from Glasgow is not surprising. In the charter market it was always stronger on Greece than Glasgow by a country mile.
Santorini, Skiathos and Preveza to name three. Although Salonika was a hit or miss from Glasgow it as always in the Newcastle menu. At points both BHX and NCL had a larger Thomas Cook base; thankfully GLA eclipsed them once both 757-300s became GLA based.
I know it’s not the place for an airport to dictate an airline’s route network but it beggars belief that there is no TUI GLA-HER service despite the fact this was flown by AMM, BY, AIH and TCX prior to the mega mergers of First Choice/Thomson and Airtours/Thomas Cook.
Perhaps it’s indicative of high costs at GLA making once popular routes marginal.
