PK to return to GLA?

Post by egpffqtv »

From the official PIA account on Twitter, looks like PIA have been talking to AGS.

Director @agsairports #Glasgow Mr. Christopher Tibbett calls on CEO #PIA discussing resumption of flights to #UK & #Scotland. The guests were presented with a PIA Tail fin depocting our resolve to provide convenient most direct connection between the two countries.

Could Pakistan International Airlines be returning to 🇬🇧Glasgow?

The airline is still banned (for now) from flying in UK airspace and once lifted, likely to add Manchester, London and Birmingham before other destinations

The UK remains an important market for PIA
At most we could expect 2-3 weekly flights as we had before, with very ‘fluid’ schedules (remember they operated non stop, via FRA, via DXB, inbound from LHE I think and outbound to ISB). Can’t really remember as they chopped and changed that much in between being banned from EU airspace a few times.

Any new business welcome at this stage tbh. Won’t impact EK too much I’d imagine, as per last time round.

I though GLA management had given up, but it seems they're going on a jolly to Pakistan instead!

It would seem a long shot imo. TK and even EY or QR would seem more realistic and sustainable going east.

Clutching at straws. Or maybe they are talking to the big boys too. Who knows.

Should GLA just say no to them an get them to go to EDI once their ban is uplifted instead?

Weird reactions indeed. It’s a nation’s airline planning to serve its market. Can’t believe folks in here think it’s anything to do with other airlines or work jollies to Pakistan.

Run the air miles up before getting fired? :D ......

....but seriously, if PK want to come back to GLA then beggars can't be choosers, so they should be welcomed with open arms. If MAN, BHX and LHR want their business, then so should we.

That said, the previous iteration appears to have had a low-60s LF in its last year on a 207 seat A310. Census data appears to show that the Pakistani population of Glasgow has increased about 40% since then, but nevertheless it's difficult to see how we'll fill aircraft, especially now their smallest lh aircraft are 300+ seat 772s.

I guess a double drop could be possible, but they seem less attractive to airlines - and more logistically complicated - than they used to be.

If the Route Dev people are flying out to Pakistan you'd think it would be more than speculative, but I think a lot of us would think there are lower hanging fruit that GLA are failing to harvest compared to a PK service. Maybe they're desperately flailing to try to find some positive.

Iain, PK thinking of serving its home market has nothing to do with other lower hanging fruit that GLA bosses could or should be chasing. I’d have thought you’d see that.

I meant that if they think they can successfully attract PK to restart service, despite its questionable potential, then it's surprising they've had little success with other routes and airlines that might appear to have a better business case.
