Sorry, did we not go through all this previously with the ill-fated rail link? I thought we'd got as far as building the new dedicated platforms at Glasgow Central, laying the high speed track and buying the new rolling stock? Then...nowt.

We did, platforms 12 & 13 were created for this, as well as the centre track from Shields to Arkleston. Although all Ayrshire and Inverclyde services benefit from this, I seem to recall the whole budget got lumped on to GARL. Extra 380's were included in the order to cover GARL, these have been put to good use elsewhere.

We shall see what timescales emerge after the end of the 12-week consultation period, but the whole programme spans 20 years. The real tragedy was the scrapping of the tram network in the early-60's, as diesel buses were seen as the way forward.

That was a dedicated stand alone airport rail link which I always thought was so limited it didn’t add much to the airport-city centre bus service.

What’s being backed now is a Greater Glasgow-wide integrated transport system that will benefit 1.5 million residents by all accounts.

Is it still in the "neat idea" folder or moved to the "signed off" one ?
The airport link is phase one part one so today’s announcement has got to be good news.
So still in the "neat idea" folder then ... ;)

If anyone fancies some "light reading", here's the link to the summary, all 44 pages of it.

According to this article "Susan Aitken responded with a tantalising promise that the council and SPT would reveal “tangible” details about the potential for an airport link around February next year." - when asked about the progress of the Clyde Metro.

Summed up by another attendee as “Another annual spiral bound booklet of vague aspiration” - I guess we just have to wait and see
