When I worked in GLA and PK operated the loads weren’t exactly setting the Heather on fire and sometimes staff tickets matched the paying load!

I have a vague memory of reading that LYP had had a runway extension. I think runway length might have been a limiting factor before, so it might now be a better option.

Failing that, I think LHE is the closest major airport.
Yes, LHE. We’ll just have to wait and see what the airline decides is right for them with their rebirth and international expansion plans backed by regulatory licence requirements.

I’m pretty certain this isn’t being driven by otherwise stumped GLA bosses as some would have in this very strange thread. But of course they are going to sign the new airline if they can.

Looking at records we had islamabad and karachi rotaing during the week both via DXB and eventually both went direct and karachi got replaced by Lahore. No record ever serving LYP .

If my memory serves me right we had 1 flight to Lahore and one to Islamabad (so 2 weekly), these then were suspended im sure but restarted a few years later with one of our Outbound flights operating to Faislabad, the only UK route Faislabad had, but this could only operate to Faislabad due to the shorter runway, meaning a full A310 couldn't take off from there.

PK were definitely NOT on my list of airlines I'd want to serve GLA, I honestly would have put money on Air India (they've given themselves a major kick up the bahookie)

Correct. I'm sure also they even marketed a through flight number once LYP-LHE-GLA due to runway restrictions.

Not to repeat what's already been said, but during PIA's tenure at Glasgow, I think they served Faisalabad, Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore. I recall flights operating via Dubai initially, later becoming direct. It’s also been mentioned that there was a period when flights operated via Frankfurt.

From what I remember, Faisalabad was served just once a week, and it was an outbound-only service. Essentially, one way, once weekly. The route was Lahore-Glasgow-Faisalabad-Lahore-, with Glasgow being Faisalabad’s only European destination at the time, and that would be the case today if relaunched.

Faisalabad Airport is currently undergoing significant upgrades, including a runway extension to accommodate long-haul Boeing 777 operations. The airport’s Wikipedia page provides some detailed insights into these improvements, along with references to the former Glasgow service, which seems, was quite a milestone for Faisalabad.

Personally, I’d welcome PIA’s return to Glasgow. Would I use the service myself? Highly unlikely, almost certainly not. But having them and their passengers at GLA would be far better than losing them to elsewhere.

Was Mohammed Sarwar not heavily involved in getting the Faisalabad link as that was the major city near to where he was born?

Speaking in ARY News program “Aiteraz Hai”, Khawaja Asif stated that PIA will also launch flights to 19 European destinations, including Barcelona and Milan.

I understand Paris has resumed, and there’s speculation that Manchester could begin as early as February. This seems to be a rapidly evolving network, so PIA might be landing at GLA sooner than any of us anticipated. Definitely one to keep an eye on!
