The last Air Transat Airbus A310 movements

Well this kind of got lost as the 'lock down' period ramped up in late March. Appearing early in the morning of Thursday 26th March, replacing the A330-200 which would normally have done this late weekday service, and two days ahead of what would have been the last scheduled A310 service. Air Transat moved into 'repatriation flight' mode later that day, which therefore made this the last A310 service to GLA and no fanfare given. I figured this might be the case, and stopped by for pics before going to work in 'key worker' mode. A very gloomy, grey GLA , other than some Europcar workers kicking a ball around up at their turnaround depot.

Farewell to another type on the Glasgow scene. Never a based type, it has appeared with a number of carriers, since introduced by British Caledonian on the occasional Gatwick service in 1984. Hopefully the 321LR will prove a worthy successor.

I recall seeing the first British Caledonian A310 on finals from my bedroom window on the south side of Paisley as a 13 year old in (what was it ?) March or April 1984, on what I think was billed as a proving flight for local based B-Cal staff to have a look at. 36 years later and about to turn 50, it was a reminder of how old the type is, not to mention myself, as the final Transat service departed.

A little digging back in SCAN has G-BKWU visiting on 21st and 23rd March 84 on demos, returning on 3rd April on the BR911 Gatwick scheduled service. Sister ship 'WT didn't visit until 24th June, operating BR901/4.

Thanks for the info, I remember that first visit vividly but hadn't realised they'd popped in and out the odd time after that. They didn't last long with B-Cal obviously and ultimately B-Cal vanished into BA. I can't help wondering if they had survived if they'd have moved onto A330's eventually and maybe the A350 now ? I know they had planned to operate the A320 and MD-11 going forward before their demise.
