I think I’ll listen to the WHO and Scotland’s science and health experts instead, if you don’t mind.
Of course, Sir.
It is not for me to say how you should think. We must all follow our own path on this
No, we must all follow the rules. Otherwise we are #Covidiots and that’s why total lockdown is the only solution.

I would not say, "the ONLY" solution.
To claim that, would be narrow minded.

If our actions are based on science and rationality, then we need to consider all aspects.

But apart from that, this Lockdown is a "Solution" that appears not to be working.

It was working until everything opened up again.

Two further points. There are "far too many experts". Everytime you switch on the TV, STV, BBC Scotland, BBC, Sky have produced yet another expert from The University of Somewhere to support the point of view that the News Editor has thought up for that particular day. I believe the SAGE Committee is made up of almost 100 "experts". Politicians are basically just guys off the street who have joined a particular political party depending on their viewpoint. The have no more expertise on ANY topic than you or me. They may have an opinion. They are tasked with listening to "all the experts" and trying to come to a cohesive view about how to proceed, not just about Covid, but about everything. Sometimes they are right, sometimes they are wrong, sometimes they dont know if they are right or wrong. Most politicians fluster and bluster about all sorts of things. I think they would get more sympathy from the likes of me if from time to time they were just to shrug their shoulders and say "I dont know - what do you think".

As for lockdown - dont get me started. We have not had lockdown since the very first week when it started in March. Since then, many people have made it a day's work to find ways to circumvent the rules. I know of one man who returned from Poland on a Friday - (Nobodys going to force me to self isolate), went to work on the Monday, tested positive on the Wednesday and now more than 6 others have tested positive with one elderly wife in hospital. Everyday there are reports of house partys being broken up by the police. Sometimes the police are assaulted when trying to break up the parties. This lockdown by public consent will never work because only about 50% of the public are totally behind it. Some choose to comply when it suits them and some wont comply at all.

The only way to stop the virus in its tracks is total lockdown with the usual health and welfare caveats. Night time curfew.... lockdown or curfew breakers to be fined £1,000 to make it meaningful. Police to be rigerous. During the first lockdown crime fell, so the the police would have more time to deal with covidiots. I appreciate its going to put people out of a job, but I'm sure government should have a startup fund for new business after its all over.

The Country cant go on staggering from week to week, arguing about figures, experts, death rates, hospitalisations, it has to stop.

Mr. BigEars, If you mean, "Let's get back to some semblance of normality", then I agree with you, but if you mean "Let's lock everybody in their homes for the next six months", then I would be very much against that.

I think that we all need to take a step back from all the media hype, and take stock of our situation now that we are over 8 months into this chaos.
- We are confronted with a pandemic.
- This pandemic is serious, but thankfully not as serious as was previously suggested by the now de-bunkt model from London's Imperial College, ( another "University of Somewhere "). This model has been proven to be "bad science". Almost staggering to believe, but the UK government still take advice from this institution, despite their previous failings. I remember back to the days of Mad Cow disease, when this same outfit whipped up hysteria about CRJ that we were all going to die from.
- Since this pandemic started, over 43 million people worldwide have been infected with Covid-19, of these about 42 million have recovered, the remainder having sadly succumbed to it.
So this is not a disease that is going to wipe out humanity. So why are we acting like it is ?
In statistical terms, it can be equated to a "Bad Flu" year, resulting in a similar number of deaths and long term debilitations.
Speaking of the Flu, does anybody else think it strange that nobody has died of the flu this year ?
Could I dare to suggest that some flu deaths are actually taking place, but they are being mis-diagnosed as Covid deaths ? I don't know, I have no data about it, I'm just musing about where all the flu deaths have gone .

When I go into a shop or get on the bus, I dutifully wear a facemask. I wear this mask, not because it affords any protection for me or for any people around me, but because I am forced by government decree and under threat of punishment to wear it.
I totally disagree with the practice, but I comply because the government has control over me, and to be honest, they could have forced me to do any number of stupid and useless things, so being told to wear a mask, is me getting off lightly.

It must now be quite obvious to all, that Lockdowns have not worked. We can put this down to those nasty Covidiots flaunting the rules, but there may also be equally valid other reasons behind this. When we compare Sweden which did not lock down its society, to the UK which did, we do not see any difference in the course of the pandemic with regard to infections and deaths per head of population. So the whole concept of Lockdown really does need to be re-examined.

The title of this Thread is "What does the future look like."
It is a very good question, and it is one which we should all take time out to think about.

What I see our Future looking like :
- The compulsory wearing of facemasks is here for good and will never be rescinded.
- Sars-Cov-2 will never be eradicated. Mankind will just need to learn to live with it just like it does with influenza. Happily, it will not wipe out humanity, but sadly it will claim a few lives each year. As it mutates, we can maybe hope that it gets less and less virulent as time goes by.
- A compulsory certificate of vaccination will be necessary for any kind of long distance travel.
- As fewer and fewer peole travel, all air travel in Scotland will be centred on EDI. GLA will in all probability need to close.
- British Airways will be nationalised.

Incidentally, as all this Covid-19 plays out on the news each and every day, day in day out,
In the background, unnoticed and unreported, the country's economy is being destroyed.
Jobs are being lost at an unprecedented rate. These jobs are never coming back.
As a result of this :
- Unemployment will reach about 40% in real terms, and we will have conditions here in the UK akin to the great depression of the 1930's.
- The resulting fall in people's incomes will result in higher crime rates and more violence in society.
- With high unemployment there will be much less discretionary spending, so foreign travel will effectively end for most people, resulting in most holiday airlines like eg. Jet2 going bust.

If air travel is going to be so lacking in demand in the future, why would you choose the smallest of the central belt airports to remain open ? And where is it written that GLA would be the one to close ?

Looks like EPS is back in a different guise.

Safe to say he or she sounds like a flat earther or 5G crank and is talking nonsense.

The virus will be overcome and demand for travel will return. Jet2 are OK, actually healthier than most [1], and GLA will never close.

[1] Jet2 only bank on the customer’s money once the holiday has taken place so that any cancellations before travel can be refunded without affecting the business.

In other words, they are not operating on the monies taken before travel. It’s like the opposite of the season ticket thing Rangers used to do, where they effectively used money in advance to fund day to day ops. Jet2 are not doing that.

They own most of their fleet and excess staff are on furlough so operating costs exist of course, but are minimal when they are not flying.

Sadly we can’t say the same for the likes of TUI and Virgin Atlantic/Holidays who are operating on credit which will need to be repaid from future profits.
