It would be shame if it was just a resumption of previously operated routes, especially as they are willing to give away free flights! Assuming they aren't included, I can't see anything more that could be added from EDI. IAH/DEN/SFO/LAX are a bit far fetched from Scotland.
The tease clearly says NEW routes - but then you have to take the American misuse of the language into account. But then recent announcements from the eastern part of the country have touted restarts as new..........
Some of the speculation on here and more especially on a.net is far fetched at best. Given that UA absolutely need the 757s on domestic (they need the lie flat seats to compete on transcons) until MAX 10s appear in 2023 at earliest then they are in short supply. XLRs are not due till 2024. The "small" widebodies that are next on the pecking order are likely to burn cash on Scottish routes.
United Airlines have announced their new and resuming routes including
Chicago O'Hare - Milan Malpensa
Denver - Munich
New York Newark - Bergen, Palma de Mallorca, Ponta Delgada & Tenerife South
Washington Dulles - Amman & Berlin
We really need somebody for NYC, there isn't enough capacity with connections through LHR,DUB, AMS, FRA to adequately handle the number of passengers we had in 2019.

So, where are we with UA then? They coming to GLA or not?
I don't think they will, we are staring to get close to the summer 2022 season and a route like this doesn't get announced last minute.
GLA direct is unlikely in 2022, unless they decide to deploy a Max I think we are stuck until the 757s get replaced. Fares from GLA are loaded, all via FRA, as LH are planning double-daily.
Slightly off-topic, but UA are to introduce the Max 8 to the North Atlantic next year, with a new Newark-Ponta Delgada service. Maybe an angle there for GLA to approach them with to get the service back up and running.
