Market share GLA-USA 2022

So - for pax travelling GLA to the USA in 2022, which carriers do we think will have the most market share given we've now only got indirect options available?

I'd go for this order:

BA/AA - via LHR/LGW
KL/AF - via AMS & CDG
EI - via DUB
LH/UA - via FRA
FI - via KEF
WS - via YYZ

I think WS might be in with a shout of a fair percentage of the market share given their US destinations - Boston/Fort Lauderdale/Fort Myers/Las Vegas/Los Angeles/Miami/New York City (LGA)/Orlando/Phoenix/Tampa.

It'll be interesting to see if 'Team GLA' start promoting the possibilities of connections with these carriers to increase public awareness.

I’d say it would very much be price and availability dependent. I know from my TUI days almost all city break type holidays were BA and if folks wished Florida on different departure dates from TUI BA was the preferred third party carrier.

Regards independent travel I think transfer times, price and airline frequent flyer programmes may hold the key.

or just travel 40 miles east and fly direct , removing the need for a change at some other airport and 2 hours faffing about.
I find this whole affair absolutely incredible.

Speaking from what I have booked I am flying LH via Frankfurt to EWR because there were no GLA flights, and I don't have access to a car to get to EDI easily. I think EI need to hurry up and announce what is happening with regional flights to DUB as nothing on sale from March 27th.

I personally never plan on travelling with British Airways as I am currently in a dispute with them over a refund they claim they do not own, despite Consumer Advice Scotland saying I should have been offered one. WS might not be ideal for connections as people are put off doing a connection that far away from home.

Of course that tactic only works when a non stop flight is available from Turnhoose to the destination airport. New York and seasonally Orlando, Las Vegas, Washington, Boston and Chicago, mibees aye. Little Rock, Tupelo, Harrisburg, Key West, Albuquerque, etc, not so much.

To support GLA’s remaining international services I’d look first at WestJet, Icelandair and Aer Lingus if going to the aforementioned mainstream destinations.

Well, Im not expecting a direct flight to Key West.
Really only New York. From there, you can access anywhere else required.
Its such a sad state of affairs.
and to finish, I just dont see the Glitterati of Morningside, Colinton and the New Town choosing Orlando as a destination. Just putting that out there..

I have no interest in flying to the USA but if I did, I would go via Dublin and use the pre-clearance facility

Agreed. EDI is certainly gearing up for that happening. Watch out for some targeted advertising aimed at the potential pax from the west.

Or seeing as this is a GLA forum, campaign for better options from GLA ? I have no interest in travelling 40 miles east along a congested motorway, the same one EDI flyers will tell you they can't possibly contemplate using but hey it's perfectly fine if you're heading east. No I'd rather use the existing facility in the west, the one that's less than two miles away from my front door, with the big Holiday Inn I can see from my kitchen window, the one I frequently walk to when 'travelking light', that one...If that cannot be partaken of, then it really is easier to fly to DUB for preclearance or go AMS or FRA to connect. Large capable international facilities versus a tiny, over capacity airport with a permanently blocked access road, that's trying to corale the entirety of the Scottish flying public through its doors...No thanks.
