or just travel 40 miles east and fly direct , removing the need for a change at some other airport and 2 hours faffing about.
I find this whole affair absolutely incredible.
Someone needs a behind closed doors conversation.
Or seeing as this is a GLA forum, campaign for better options from GLA ? I have no interest in travelling 40 miles east along a congested motorway, the same one EDI flyers will tell you they can't possibly contemplate using but hey it's perfectly fine if you're heading east. No I'd rather use the existing facility in the west, the one that's less than two miles away from my front door, with the big Holiday Inn I can see from my kitchen window, the one I frequently walk to when 'travelking light', that one...If that cannot be partaken of, then it really is easier to fly to DUB for preclearance or go AMS or FRA to connect. Large capable international facilities versus a tiny, over capacity airport with a permanently blocked access road, that's trying to corale the entirety of the Scottish flying public through its doors...No thanks.
Same. I’d literally have to drive past GLA to get to the beast in the east. But it’s not even that simple. I couldn’t get there for an early morning departure or arrive back at night without an overnight stay. Public transport is out of the question so there would be long stay parking and a lip smacking, grinning, beetroot style face of Dewar to consider. So it’s a no from me.
Next time I go Stateside I’ll use my new Canadian passport for expeditious entry and hopefully I’ll be able to give WestJet my business.
And this is what Edinburgh protagonists fail to consider time and time again. Especially the perceived notion that all GLA users already live east of the city and would be far better nipping along to Turnhouse for all their aviation needs.
Although I now live only 10 miles from EDI my passion was always GLA as I worked most of my live in the west.
I would not use any direct flights to the USA from EDI due to the costs. I would rather go over Dub or LHR

Youre perfectly entitled to think like that. I dont and neither do normal Vacationers

Agreed. I too have to drive past GLA to reach EDI - doesn't mean that I won't use it. GLA's meaningful network is simply too lacking.

Thank goodness for Eddy. If it was still 90’s style small I guess we’d all just stay at home.
I honestly don't know what you expect. If it's a cost issue then how are you getting to the likes of Munich, Vienna, Copenhagen, Seville, Madrid, Lisbon without connecting? Even if you are connecting, EDI still has way more options. I don't particularly like using EDI but I'm not going to change my travel plans to be able to say I used GLA. I've lost count of the number of times I've been unable to find suitable flights to/from GLA and subsequently found much better alternatives from EDI.

Yes, this. I would literally need to pass GLA in order to get to EDI, I often find that even if EDI has a direct flight and is cheaper it does not factor in the cost of getting to EDI by car, bus or train.
Just look at the messaging (key words in bold & underlined by me) . . . .
Meanwhile, Air Canada and WestJet flights will resume next year linking Edinburgh with Toronto. Virgin Atlantic also starts its Barbados route next week. (blatant lies re WestJet resuming, of course no mention of WestJet at Glasgow)
Edinburgh Airport continued to have links during the pandemic with Doha in Qatar and Istanbul via Turkish Airlines. Emirates also restarted flights from Dubai to Glasgow Airport.

Surprised they didn’t mention Delta who return with JFK and a new service to BOS. Also AA will resume PHL and Jet2holidays will offerthe first ever Scottish services from EDI to Santorini (JTR) and Skiathos (JSI).
While I’ve been updating my old logs I have been looking at old copies of Airport Timetables. Even back in the 80/90s GLA volume routes routes being leisure services with EDI business routes forming the majority of their services. What has changed is the long haul migration eastwards with nothing being done to arrest/reverse the trend.
Now as others say EDI has capitalised on alliances, new destinations, expansion from existing carriers and connectivity throughout Central Scotland by bus and train.
