Cruise Ships for Glasgow`s KGV Dock

Possibly of interest to some, three cruise ships are set to be stored at the KGV over the coming weeks. Apparently Ocean Terminal at Greenock was the preferred location but local councillors refused as Inverclyde is Scotland`s worst hit area re COVID-19. The ships will all be crew only, and the first Azamara Pursuit (currently just north of Dublin) is scheduled to arrive tomorrow having sailed from Miami. I don`t have the dates for the others yet.

Very nice, I looked up a photo of the Azamara Pursuit on Google. Me and my drone might need to park ourselves somewhere 'doon the waater'.

No way could they come to Greenock. The crew should have refused anyway as they are all clear of the virus and have been perfectly isolated for ages whereas Greenock has some cases.

There was the possibility of them anchoring up long term in Loch Striven as some oil tankers did for a few years but they would have meant the crews using Dunoon for services and provisions. Our local council could not allow that at this present time.

But imagine any such ships wanting to dock in the UK when these islands have the worst Covid rates in the world. I’d steer well clear.

I remember the big ships laid up in Loch Striven, which I spotted from the Rothesay ferry. I take it that if cruise ships are coming from the US to the Clyde for long term storage the berthing fees her must be pretty cheap in comparison.

It looks as though the 'Pursuit will sail upriver tomorrow to be at the KGV around 9 am, so it will be an early kick-off for any photographers.

Funnily enough, the nearest port to the Loch Striven raft was Rothesay, which they would send a launch over to, several times a day. Including human cargo on trips to the pub as no bevvying was permitted on board. I made the odd ship to shore run myself !

Hah, I looked at the shipfinder app at around 0700, and it had it still west of Gourock having just entered the Firth. So I downed a quick coffee thinking I had plenty time to drive the 12 minutes or so to Langbank to launch my drone. I checked the app again as I got out the car and the fecker was now showing her sailing past Yoker !
