EZY Update
Re: EZY Update
been reading the same message for years. No spare aircraft for Glasgow. Its going here,Its going there. Its going anywhere but Glasgow. Didnt stop them putting metal elsewhere. Makes you think really.
Re: EZY Update
Of course some of the 20 routes were 'summer only' as well as being already served by other carriers from GLA (although I can't instantly recall what the 20 were)GeorgeNTravels wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 11:49 pmYes, out of the 20 we lost with them the following still remain unserved:egpffqtv wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 11:33 pmIsn’t that a former FR route?GeorgeNTravels wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 10:27 pm EZY launch Crete (Chania) 2x week from June 29th - September 4th
Sofia, Carcassonne, Palanga, Valencia, Riga, Lisbon, Bydgoszcz & Madrid
and 4 have since been reinstated:
Alicante, Charleroi, Malaga & Warsaw
Of the eight routes you note as 'unserved', six are operated by Ryanair along the M8 (exceptions are Palanga & Bydgoszcz)

Re: EZY Update
Seems a very late change ie 10 weeks away - prices are high / very high to mid July then fall awayawwdabaaby wrote: ↑Thu Apr 14, 2022 8:43 am Had a quick look, easyjet really are something, give us chania but take away Venice to operate it, Venice now operates outside of high season, Bordeaux drops to 2xweekly as Wednesday flight no longer operates, as this becomes Chania and Venice becomes Belfast at high season.
I'll try update the schedule today but busy with uni assessment and packing for easter break away

Re: EZY Update
Airlines were soliciting bids from airports at the tail end of last year / beginning of this year for additional capacity due to having limited additional units to be placed for this summer.
The email from EasyJet probably went into the GLA management email spam folder.

My opinion only to the above: “Nonsense”buddyboy wrote: ↑Thu Apr 14, 2022 9:33 am Again, unfortunately as I have said before, schedules from Glasgow reflect the perceived demand. Airlines seem covinced that people from the West of Scotland aren't interested in city breaks (imo for the most part accurate) Instead it's all about bucket and spade and this easyJet change is the latest example of this.
I'm afraid until we shake this image/ people in the west get over their obsession with the Canaries/simple bucket and spade destinations we are doomed to repeat this pattern.
Re: EZY Update
A good considered response.....
Every time an airline has had to make the call it drops a city break destination for a beach route. EZY are particularly bad but Jet2 are also guilty. However they obviously see more money in these routes otherwise they would stick with the city break destinations.
What about that is nonsense?

Re: EZY Update
If we look back to S19 (i.e. the last summer before covid) and compare to S22, I think we're still down many thousands of seats to beach destinations because of the Thomas Cook collapse (and GLA managements embarrassing failure to replace them!). As such it's pretty likely that there's a fairly significant shortage of seats this summer to these kind of destinations, so it's not necessarily surprising the airlines see an opportunity - particularly during the peak school holiday period - to launch these destinations and make a lot of money.
I don't think this reflects the lack of demand to city destinations, but rather very high peak demand during school holidays to beach destinations and the airlines think can make even more money sending aircraft to those. The problem is insufficient capacity and so they have to make tough choices. The further problem at GLA is they have no competition to the likes of VCE and as such do not have to worry about ceding passengers to a competitor by messing around with the route.
I see EZY have announced a couple of similar routes at EDI (which is worrying because this is essentially replacing lost TCX GLA capacity at EDI) - presumably they cut some existing route at EDI to make way for these?
I suggest that GLA's major problem with city routes is that most of that demand is getting on a bus at Buchanan Street and going to EDI!

Re: EZY Update
And as people are demonstrably happy to do it, the airlines have no need to serve GLA and GLA bosses are hamstrung.

Re: EZY Update
I know some routes have seen capacity cuts at EDI with easyJet, PRG going from 6 weekly now 3 weekly, not sure about the rest though.Iain wrote: ↑Sat Apr 16, 2022 10:43 am If we look back to S19 (i.e. the last summer before covid) and compare to S22, I think we're still down many thousands of seats to beach destinations because of the Thomas Cook collapse (and GLA managements embarrassing failure to replace them!).
