NOSTALGIA - OCTOBER SCHOOL HOLIDAY

Post by Bearsden »

Remember how busy this weekend used to be?

SCAN notes in 2016 'THOMAS COOK AIRLINES based three A321s throughout the month. The additional October school holidays flights brought in most of the airline’s short-haul fleet, the one exception being Newcastle based A321 G-TCDN.' (also leased A320s, Thomas Cook B767 & Condor B757)

Today - 2 Jet2 to Tenerife, 1 Jet2 to Lanzarote, 1 Jet2 to Gran Canaria

I remember it well Bearsden. The one thing that GLA always excelled at was bucket'n'spade getaways. Now we don't even have that it would seem with EDI making major inroads to this market in recent years. It's annoying to say the least how we seem to have just surrendered everything recently without so much as a whimper let alone a fight (as far as I can see). As posted on another thread, thank God for Jet2 otherwise airfield op's would just spend their days gathering the tumbleweeds blowing across the airfield.

Tui have managed two 787 departures to Cancun today, a token contribution from them. Jet2 have 14 departures, all 7 based aircraft doing 2 trips each. Easyjet with their usual 6 beach departures for a Saturday. It'll be interesting to compare the October '22 figures with '18 on the Med and Canaries routes.

No wonder it’s so expensive to get away this week nowadays though with supply so little compared to what it used to be!

One of the TUI's to cancun was just a fuel stop from NCL. Too heavy to operate nonstop.

Oh for the days when Thomas CookAirlines had six, yes six, based aircraft operating from Sharm El Sheikh, Turkey, Greece, Spain, Portugal, plus long haul to Toronto, Orlando, Las Vegas, Cancun,Puerto Plata and Cayo Coco in Cuba.

TUI has done GLA no favours and under their current business model the largest growth airports are Birmingham and Bristol. They even have more NCL based aircraft than GLA!
