As I've said already, it's not that there's a lack of demand, it's that the demand is being served from Edinburgh. Twice weekly flights at stupid times means that people will travel farther for better options. LIS is going to be in the same situation. It's not that the demand doesn't exist, otherwise there would be no foundation on which to launch in the first place. VCE has operated for a few years now and was even increased but much like MXP, the options are far better from EDI and therefore GLA is left with trash yields.

Re the bucket and spade brigade, that sounds like something that would come out of an AGS board meeting

So if the airports are interchangeable for pax, GLA has no real chance. Obviously pax will flood to EDI where the flights are cheap as chips and as numerous as heck. Now we are getting to why GLA bosses are in a difficult situation. I remember saabdriver told us this is why GLA can’t even operate a flight to Scandinavia. No point for the airlines if the pax are just going to stick with the EDI offerings.

Customer choice. If no eejit uses the GLA service then of course it won’t sustain. Airport bosses can’t force the locals to fly.

Your right they can't force them to fly but they could do other things such as work with the airlines, find solutions to build up there network so we are more competitive. Work with glasgow council , the tourist board etc etc . But sadly not seen much of this the latter as visit Scotland don't really advertise glasgow .

I’m sure they would argue that they do work with all stakeholders and agencies to promote new and existing routes.

Another thread goes back full circle to AGS's failures since acquiring the three airports for a ridiculous sum of money

I'm afraid we have to accept that GLA's route offerings will remain broadly as is assuming the inbound market to Scotland doesn't expand significantly

GLA handled 209,000 international passengers in November 2022 - EDI handled 566,000 . . . . the traffic from/to only three countries (Irish Republic, Spain including Canaries and France) through EDI exceeded the total international traffic through GLA

Instead we are left with a bare bones Ryanair offering and some measly easyJet city breaks that change every few years that should be bread and butter from a city and market the size of GLA.

I agree, GLA city break offerings are awful, which is a pain as it is my preferred holiday type and it is becoming increasingly popular amongst younger people.

I note that based on comments from GLA management they expect 2023 to conclude with 1 million extra pax compared to this year (so I am guessing 7.5 million).

I agree. Only securing a Ryanair base will bring strong growth of both pax numbers and destination portfolio. I’ve been saying that like a broken record since they left and took a million pax with them. I also said it for years before they came and was proven correct at the time.

easyJet are relatively good compared to years ago but with much of our market perfectly happy to use EDI as their departure point, easyJet will continue to only tinker at the edges at GLA. If GLA is in the wrong place, as we were assured the other day, then that’s a fact of life in which GLA bosses have to operate.

I would say that as long as they continue to use PIK there is zero chance of a Glasgow operation which is hugely frustrating.

Was in the terminal briefly tonight and could see that EZY have changed their check-in layout at GLA. They now appear to have 8 machines rather than 4.
