It not just 500,000 in Edinburgh, EDI catchment is taken in the border, East Lothian, West Lothian, mid Lothian, Fife, Perth, central,
Dundee, Stirling, Falkirk, Grangemouth, and even parts of north England.
a lot bigger than GLA apt. Also EDI is sharing north and south Lanarkshire. I have alway said Gla is on the wrong side of the city.
Passenger don’t want to fight their way through the M8 in Glasgow when they have an airport 30min to 45 mins away.
The airlines are aware of this.
Hold up. Let’s not let facts get in the way of a good story. If EDI’s catchment area reaches into England then GLA and EDI’s catchment areas overlap by about 95%. That is to say that only 5% of EDI’s catchment area is not in GLA’s and of course the reverse is true too. It works both ways.
It’s all down to connectivity though, isn’t it?

No, by the accepted industry standard of 2 hours by road, the GLA and EDI catchments overlap almost completely. In practice most pax will go for whichever flight best suits their needs and in many cases that will be an EDI flight because they have it covered and usually cheapest thanks to a huge Ryanair base, amongst many other airlines.
It’s more to do with availability of cheap flights.

ATL-EDI increasing to daily before it's even started.
Lasted a season last time ... think will take pax of the virgin for connections to FL ... Think DL overstretching capacity .
Virgin are not serving connecting pax at 2x weekly to MCO.

True but DL did say they where using ATL for purpose of connecting FL traffic . That's my point in turn taking pax from VS

I think it will relieve connecting traffic from AF/KL over CDG and AMS to ATL releasing seats for European destinations for group travel. That’s one aspect which has not yet fully recovered yet since Covid but it sure to bounce back this year.

Atuk...slightly off topic but in a number of your posts the quotes are messed up making it hard to read, could it be that you are inadvertently deleting one of the quote tags when making a post?
Thanks wasn’t aware of this. I know predictive text can change what’s typed but not the order of OST’s.
I’ve spent a great morning shift on TOM238 787 service to BGI on behalf of P&O cruises and exclusive to Hays Travel.
Lovely passengers and colleagues to work with. The four of us had a ball with plaudits to boot.
