Could be good news for GLA.
YA DANCER!
Having re-read the post, it seems that the FR pilots have taken an offer which will see these bases not closing. Good news, keeping jobs in the west of Scotland, do you not think?
In summary, 260 jobs saved out of 330 proposed (quote) with most of the rest linked to the possible base closures which is still to be resolved. We will remain in negotiations with the airline about those jobs and aim to protect those too.

From what I’ve heard there is a 30% mandatory pay cut for employees, base cuts and closures with EDI seeing a 30% reduction in based aircraft and a PIK being closed.

Even if PIK closes they could still fly non based.

However regards all of our Scottish airports we COULD see the following:

No TUI bases in ABZ and EDI, leaving GLA in situ with perhaps much more non based flying covering BFS too. Something I have mooted for years as it would concentrate operations in one airport serving many others. Just like TUI Germany and Belgium already do.

FR reduced base at EDI with possibly units being placed in GLA. ABZ, EDI and GLA having non based operations.

EZY being more evenly split between EDI and GLA with small increases at ABZ and INV. It isn’t the EZY way to slip crews on W based pattern flights as these normally comprise the likes of LGW-GLA- TXL- GLA- LGW being operated by a single crew on a four sector day. This wouldn’t work for Spain,Greece, Cyprus as these involve much longer daily duty hours.

That then leaves Jet2. Edi and Gla with perhaps W patterns to ABZ just like Airtours/Mytravel did back in “the good old days”.

Jet2 crews do one rotation so I can’t see them doing any W’s.

Hope you’re right about FR and U2 though.

My thruppence

If PIK base does close, I expect a lot more W flying and rotation of aircraft for maintenance. GLA will remain roughly the same as it. EDI will see reductions.
easyJet are going to be reducing everywhere
Jet2 will remain static for the next year or two.
Completely agree that TUI will focus on GLA as the Scottish base.
Loganair will do their thing, can't see anyone taking on Dusseldorf for the forseeable future. Eurowings perhaps, once all the shite has passed in 3-4 years

Clive you’re right regards Jet2.

As I said any W pattern flights would be like Airtours slipping crews in ABZ.

GLA-PMI-ABZ-PMI-GLA just as TUI do in reverse on the GLA non based W rotations.

What you on about? This section is as it says and like it or not EDI was the countries busiest and fastest growing airport worth its weight to the Scottish economy and this countries route network would be quite barren without it. All other aviation no matter where is what this section is for and open discussion.

Not to be pedantic but it’s not growing.

Not to be more pendatic but nothing is growing at the moment airportwise. I'm sure the previous commentator was referring to matters pre-pandemic where EDI was growing like topsy. Happy to be corrected.

Just looking into the Belgian operations. Whilst the crew seem to be all BRU based, there are nightstoping aircraft at Charleroi, Liege, Antwerp, Ostend, Lille and Paris (and also in Morocco). So from a capacity perspective, no obvious difference compared to having crew bases at these airports. Presumably the efficiencies of one large crew base outweigh what must be a very large taxi bill! If that exact model was applied in Scotland, ABZ and EDI would keep 'their' aircraft, with the 'benefit' for GLA being additional crew to support the ABZ & EDI nightstoppers

No, he used the present tense as confirmed by the word ‘is’. No Scottish airports are growing presently. That was my point.
