The new Hate Crime Bill Scotland comes into effect today. Some guidance for posters:
The new Hate Crime Bill brings together the main aspects of already existing legislation and expands it into new areas.
There is no requirement to show “intent” in a person’s postings or utterances for an offence to have been committed.
The website could be required, on issuance of a warrant, to provide the police with a user’s registration details and history of IP usage.
With this in mind - engage your brain before posting and ask yourself if you would be prepared to make such comments in front of a police officer in public.
