EZY to AYT and JTR… more TUI seats available from EDI than at the cost of TUI metal.

This means two operators Jet2 and EZY to JTR with no GKA service. TUI don’t take seats or have any commercial agreement with Jet2 so presumably any seats they sell will be on EZY!

Either GLA costs are too high for TUI or there is no market with sustainable, sizeable relevant disposable income seen in the GLA market in the eyes of the tour operators.

Im assuming that AYT is in Turkey, and have to say that us in the west flock to Turkey because its cheap. Dont think disposable income has anything to do with it. Rory and India from Morningside very very very unlikely to go to Turkish beach resort.

I spent a TUI educational in AYT a few years back. It has many five star hotels, and above, with numerous golf courses near Belek and Side. There’s lots of Roman remains and history and culture as well as areas of natural beauty.

I’m sure Morningside ticks the boxes just as much as Cramond, Hyndland and Bearsden. Presumably that why XQ, TK and EZY plus Jet 2 and TUI are all flying there from EDI and GLA.

As youre an experienced chap, Im sure you get my point. Edinburgh has approx 500,000 souls. Not all of which are in the high disposable bracket. In Glasgow the conurbation is almost 3 times the number.
Turkey from Glasgow is an absolute no brainer.

It not just 500,000 in Edinburgh, EDI catchment is taken in the border, East Lothian, West Lothian, mid Lothian, Fife, Perth, central,
Dundee, Stirling, Falkirk, Grangemouth, and even parts of north England.
a lot bigger than GLA apt. Also EDI is sharing north and south Lanarkshire. I have alway said Gla is on the wrong side of the city.
Passenger don’t want to fight their way through the M8 in Glasgow when they have an airport 30min to 45 mins away.
The airlines are aware of this.

Hold up. Let’s not let facts get in the way of a good story. If EDI’s catchment area reaches into England then GLA and EDI’s catchment areas overlap by about 95%. That is to say that only 5% of EDI’s catchment area is not in GLA’s and of course the reverse is true too. It works both ways.

It’s all down to connectivity though, isn’t it? EDI has direct bus services from Dundee, Dunblane via Stirling and Grangemouth, Dunfermline and two Park and Rides at Halbeath and Ferrytoll, Glasgow plus those services which stop at Ingliston Park and Ride Ember connecting Kinross and Perth. Add to that the for services from the City Centre serving the suburbs and main train stations at Waverley and Haymarket plus the tram.

All Glasgow has is a service 500 / 77 from the City Centre and the 757 from Clydebank via Erskine to Paisley plus an infrequent service to Fort William and Skye. Nothing to Inverclyde, Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, Monklands, South Lanarkshire all of which border the city. Rail connectivity is woeful, that’s when the trains actually run and the days of private bus links from Dundee and Fife have gone. That traffic has selected an Edinburgh departure instead.

Yes and with reference to rail, we are soon going to have the following situation:-

Inverness Dalcross railway station opening later this year.

Aberdeen has Dyce.

Edinburgh the light rail tram which connects to the rail network at Edinburgh Gateway plus the city centre

Prestwick it's own private rail station, and probably the best situated from all of the above.

Glasgow zilch despite so much talk/plans.
