These dates are just ahead of a reported MAN-JFK round trip on 21-25 May, could it be a travel trade jolly. Flights are operated by Hi Fly Malta. Won't hold my breath on this, the whole thing seems highly suspect.

Are flights to be operated by the A380?

6 weeks really isn't a lot of lead in time. I wonder what the purpose of this flight is. Could Global Airlines be planning to add a frequent A380 GLA-JFK service?

These may be route proving flights for the CAA.

Let's hope so! An A380 on GLA-JFK blows the competition out the water down the M8. Additionally, United and the others are well aware of the market potential from GLA. If another carrier steps in, it could be the catalyst needed to bring the first of the US3 back to their rightful airport in Scotland.

A route proving flight is more to do with the award of an AOC by the CAA or the introduction of a new aircraft type by an airline. Initially they may involve training flights between airports in the UK with crew only onboard. These may be similar to the flights BA operated to FRA, ARN & MAD when they introduced the 787, A380 and A350 into service where they would replace the scheduled A32X.
