I could be mistaken and am open to correction, but I believe this is more about turnaround times than costs.
Yes this is correct , FR once threatened to leave ALC and AGP as well as others due to airport authority's wanted them to use the jettys

Air Bridge 33 is the next bridge to be swapped out hopefully late this year early next. Air Jetty 27, 28 & 29 are having tyre issues, and the tyres we received I understand did not meet the quality we expected and were returned to the supplier, hence the lengthy outage. Air Bridge 23 another longtime outage has been fixed and I understand training is required for staff before it can be put back into service.
Thanks for the info. Hopefully they manage to get 32 & 33 swapped out.

Last used a Jetbridge with KLM on the international pier. I have had two Ryanair flights where airbridges were used GOT and HAM.

Over the past week or two, airbridges on stands 29 and 28 have been put back into use, however stand 28 air bridge is out of use once again due to a hole in the floor which is being fixed as we speak. Replacement of the bridge on 32 started yesterday. Bridges on 23, 24 and 25 which where also out of use have now been repaired and put back into service. All of these jetbridges started returning to operation a week or so after the take over was finalised.

Interesting that the repairs have taken place quickly. Were they out of service for long before they were repaired? I've flown LH, EZY and LS in the past 3 months and didn't use the airbridges on any of the flights. Can't remember the gates, but they were on the left hand side about halfway down the international pier.

Ryanair won't be needing airbridges with this alleged new base Clive is banking on coming here ;)

Not just me. I think most of us realise that’s the only goose which could lay the golden egg, so to speak.

Oh I realise this too, but realistically what chance do we have?

As we all know, Ryanair closed its base at GLA in 2019 and moved most of the routes it closed to EDI. The airline announced this decision in November 2018 (yes, 7 years ago this year), and it was part of a wider restructuring to consolidate operations at Edinburgh, where it would increase the number of routes and expand its presence. Something most airlines are doing, consolidation of operations at EDI.

This move effectively marked the end of Ryanair’s direct base operations at Glasgow International, although the airline continued to operate flights from Glasgow, just not from a dedicated base there. The decision was part of Ryanair's strategy to focus on its more profitable routes and bases.

Now these are all assumptions on my part, but supposing EDI signed an exclusive 5 year deal with FR back in 2018, that would have expired in 2023/24. If they signed a further 5 years, that will expire in 2028/29. Did EDI manage to tie FR to a 10 year deal? Is there actually no exclusivity deal? You and I will never know, but this is the reality we're dealing with.

MOL is openly talking about moving aircraft out of the UK due to APD increases. Possibly all bluff & bluster from him. Who knows? What will compel them to re-open their GLA base?

As you’ve described, the only certainty is change. I do know for a fact that GLA were trying to get them to sign. Less factually but more anecdotally I think it was on the table when PIK won their 5 year deal. But that wasn’t a growth deal. There’s still hope for GLA because if we are correct, there is a market to be had here. If there isn’t we can forget everything

Let's say EDI has an FR deal until 2028/29 and PIK similar. When do you foresee FR opening a base here?

Whenever the new co secure their business. And we can be sure it’s a live conversation regardless of base numbers elsewhere. I’m sure you wouldn’t forgive the new bosses if they gave up on Ryanair until 2028/29, and rightly so.
